hey, I am new to the boards and feel like asking a question since i know a lot of you are pretty smart and educated.

I want to be a police officer when i graduate college, either in the nypd or lapd and work my way up to captain or chief. What would be the best thing to go to college for that? Criminal justice? or what? Thanks any help is appreciated

Psychology is often a good field for that kind of thing as well - think as your enemy does and all that.

My friend is looking at becoming a cop. He's a 3d studio art major. Apparently they don't care as long as you have a college degree. Though I would expect psychology or criminal justice wouldn't hurt at all.

i cant commnt sorry, im from the UK.. but if you lived here in the UK, u cud have done our Public Services option in College.

which i might do in September.. (i wanna be a firefighter).

You could always go with Forensics (not the debate forensics, obviously) or forensic pyschology! Or forensic entomology, if you like the bugs!

Criminology, Sociology, Psychology, Religious Studies and History would all help in my opinion.

Hey blahblahblah dont see you much these days :(

I'm thinking of going into forensics. Theres one way to get into it, which is train with the police then take the forensic route by training as that by being a simple technician in the lab, or alternatively on crime scenes. You'll need to take biology and chemistry for that, even maths possibly. If you have the option of law open to you then that would be useful as well. Psychology has a link but there may be other courses you could take that are more tightly woven to being in the force.

All of the cops I know studied Criminal Justice in college. It was a 2+2 degree. A 2+2 is an associates degree and something else.

Don't you normally have to serve in the millitary before you become a police officer?

Nope. For most city police departments, you just go to the academy and get trained. For most state departments, you can have A) Two years of military experience B) Two or more years of experience in another police or sheriff's department or C) Some college (usually two or more years).

...or become like me and drop out of school!

.... ;(

Do you love me because I'm sexy?Or do you love me for my personality?

That is the question at hand.
