Combine HEV?

Maybe not an HEV, but if you listen to the combine in the tunnels movie you hear a faint "beeeeeeeeep..." when they die, like a life support thing. In the original HL the HEV made this same noise when you died. Doesn't look like the combine are wearing any sort of suit, just a normal uniform. Could this hint to the Combines mechanical side?
 
Could be those masks they wear, kinda meaning that theres no breathing anymore.
Or maybe there robots, and thats there system turning off.
Or there aliens, and thats there death cry.
 
Are you sure the soldier just didnt felt like fooling around with Gordon, him shooting the combine with his peashooter not penetrating crap of the armor, then the soldier fell down (of course in funny angles to simulate reality) and said "beeeeeeeeeeeeep", just to get up when Gordon turns around thinking he's dead?!
 
Their gas masks are Russian PKx s....they are human, and why would aliens wear human gas masks... ah well. I think it could just be a signal... I don't know :p
 
There's already been some talk about this sound. I guess they are wearing body armor under their uniforms that has some sort of life-support or vital signs monitoring. I always liked that concept in HL1. The HEV suit has such a cool voice. "Warning...vital signs weak..electro-shocks administered" or something like that.

I think if the combine soldiers were partly mechanical, they would be alot tougher to kill. Of course the Combine's use of biomechanics in the strider could mean that the soldiers are biomech as well. We'll know when we play.

Someone also mentioned that it could be your own HEV that warns you when your enemy is dead. I think this is unlikely because VALVe normally doesn't like to change such basic gameplay things.

Why would humans wear alien weaponry? Think on it :)
 
If they are aliens, then there using gas masks because they may not be able to breathe our oxygen. I'm skeptical on whether the combine are humans or aliens, they could just look like us, but not actually be human. Shape shifters perhaps?

Those gasmasks are to long to be those... it looks like those masks, but the face is to long, almost as there was a looong alien face under it :cheese:

Cant be that much longer... At any rate, they have american voices... Aliens just doesnt make sense. Consider the weaponry, looks, uniforms and general weakness (invading aliens would bring body armor)... It doesnt really fit with them being aliens. We've even seen regular (well a bit futuristic, but still standard) pictures of an armored vehicle they use. Why on earth would aliens go such lengths to basicly be humans? :)

On a different note, I think they come from the hole to the inside of the earth (its hollow) in the northpole, everybody knows its there.
 
thank you dawdler.... how would aliens get hold of the Objective Individual Comabt Weapon.... how would they know how great it is? I think they are just soldiers employed by the Combine :p

Why not say "ALIEN DOWN"
Maybe the combine are intelligent beings and just as in our lives, we don't refer to a fallen cop as being "Human down" as that doesn't make sense. They may certainly be aliens but refer themselves as "MAN" for squad reasons.

This is quite interesting as the combine soldier in the tunnel video at the end speaks clear english and says "hold it", but all the other combine in the same level have that freaky goat curdling voice.

Very interesting, I think HL2 has a much deeper plot than we expect.:cheers:

To themselves, they're not "aliens". From their perspective, we're actually the "aliens", so they wouldn't refer to themselves in that way at all.

You would have problem too if you where trying to talk with that mask on :)

Anyway, they *might* be aliens, but considering all the things we know, they must not be there by own will (they would have brought heavier weaponry). It is NOT alien invaders. They have obviously been equipped by humans and they use human tactics and voices. Maybe Gordons dimension trip punched a deeper hole than we thought, hehe...
 
by the way, about the suit's voice... she says "morphine administered"..
 
I believe that a while ago someone confirmed that the weird "voice" the combine sometimes have is the zombie effects from HL1 that were being used as placeholders. Can anyone confirm that?
 
those gasmaks aren't russian pkx, they are communist bulgarian PMGs as depicted without the side filter. I'm getting one through ebay, i should know

Perhaps they are wearing something similar to shepahrd. Did that make a beeping sound? Sorry if this was mentioned, im to pre occupied to contribute fully.

The other soldiers are to stupid to use the fake-HEV-beeeeep-death to fool Gordon. You cant expect all creatures from the northpole hole (hey it rimes :)) to be bright can you?
 
In the latest video, Barricade, before the combine shoots the flair on top of that "watch tower" he points at you and says "Gordon" in a somewhat alien-human like voice.

Just sounds like someone speaking inside a gas-mask but through a radio, like in HL1 when you listened in on the grunt communications (I SOO loved that: Go! Recon! Gogogo! Move!, ah nostalgia).

So in my opinion, not aliens. And you'll have to try hard to make me change my mind on this one hehe.

it would make sense if they were robots and bleed and have flesh and all!!
who knows for how long have the combined been between us, spying, preparing for invading (IF they really are aliens/robots)
