Combine Soldiers using Rpgs in Episode 2?

Bring it! This episode is already shaping up to be beyond my expectations - combine with RPGs will be even more fun.

If you browse the ep1 sound files, somwhere you can find Barney and Alyx talking about a soldier with an rpg... I don't remember the exact location of the file though :p. Anyway it was cut at the end ;(

Man, I can't wait to see the combine versing the rebels in an all out war ^-^

Problem is it might be a little hard if they could aim very well with it.

I hope those in the gameplay videos are not all in EP:2. I wish I could see something more in the game, especially when Valve delayed the game again.

I wanna be able tyo see gordon's feet in this one :(

why can't they do that? It'd just be the suit moving... thats it... ><

Exactly, that's why it's a bad idea.

Plus can you imagine the time it'd take to figure out the angle needed? And when you move the mouse, it just isn't the head, it's the entire torso, so that would be needed to take into consideration. The crouching, standing, and jumping actions would need to modelled and animated.

I can live with just a shadow, but waiting on VALVe to do something that petty and insignificant to the story line would be absurd.

Plus it would take out some of the immersion as well..Not all of it, just a little.

That's against Valve's policy of flying torso with guns. And seeing your feet is more like an Eye candy. So it's no big deal. Pretend you are a flying torso and you'll get the point.

You have a funny concept of immersion, real life must be very fake to you, right?

PS: OMFG!!!! Combines with RPGs?!

Correct, they don't wanna break teh immersion (though TBH Prey didn't have broken immersion IMO and it had mirrors and shadows and the PC talking. Then again, HL woulnd't be right if Gordon talked.

I don't want to see Gordon's body. Ever.

Seeing your body animate in most situations in Half-Life would probably just come out looking absurd and stupid. Leave it out, please. We don't need it.

In fact, that shitty talk about immersion doesn't make sense.
I believe Valve was just lazy to model and animate Freeman's body, besides, HL2 is so damn good you don't even care about these small details.
If they were to model Freeman's body in First Person view, they should make optional, to please all costumers.

PS: Freeman talking would suck.

Go play COJ and understand why seeing your body is a bad idea.

What the **** is with people calling Valve lazy?

They spent years creating a ****ing award-winning game and now they're suddenly lazy for not implementing trivial bullshit like seeing you're feet when you look down? What kind of ****ing clownboat of logic are we riding here?

Most games that allow you to see your body from the first-person POV simply don't pull it off where it looks well. Many also employ different methods of character movement in order to sync up with animation, and precision is often lost for the sake of looking fluid. Barring certain exceptions, it's just plain awkward a lot of the time. I'd much prefer Valve to focus on actual gameplay-relevant aspects instead.

I believe your talking shit.

It's just unnecessary for a FPS. Who cares if you can see their body or legs.

Yay. Hopefully this and the new difficulty setting will be in Episode 2. It'll probably be a nice combination.

wow... umm... let's just say aty the end of my post I was answering my own question ^^

actually, meant mor halo 2 style, because they did that very well, but if you think that'd be a bad idea for some weird reason, then I must be completely wrong :p

well, this topic isn't about freeman's feet, its about combine with rpgs. ZOMG< SAY TEH WHAT?! DAT'D BE TEH SHIZNIT!!!!!1!!!1111!!!!1!11!!!111!!!1!one!!1!!!11!!!LoLz!!!!11!!!

:p

If the car is destructible, and the Combine have tracking RPGs, then I will end up spending most of Episode 2 walking:(

I believe your talking shit.

Nah, I'm just feeding you ego.

Not really, just an eye candy. That's why I said it should be optional, you choose wether you want to see you body or not.

Now getting back to the subject...............why would the Overwatch be using RPGs? Will the rebels be using vehicles in combat now? Hence making necessary an anti-vehicle weapon?

RPG's? That's honestly quite worrying.

Because, even with the red dot, even with the loud noise and travel time, it would essentially be a one hit kill "Surprise!" weapon, because of the tracking. And if there was ever a single-player joykill, it is the one-hit kill Surprise weapon.

Gabe said it himself in the Lost Coast commentary. Players like to see what kills them. If some unknown thing you never saw takes you from full health to zero in one shot, it simply pisses people off. It is just this thing that killed the Halo 2 single-player. It's why people bitch about AWP and Rocket whores. Retrying several times from a quicksave just to nail a single soldier with a sniper rifle is NOT what people buy these games to do.

You wanna know how I'm afraid it'll turn out? Play DayHard, that goofy HL2 mod. I must've tried a dozen times trying to figure out how to take care of those deadly accurate RPGs that were taking shots from the other side of the map. It was NOT a good time.

Of course, what Valve will do, they'll probably make the soldiers piss poor shots even on Hard mode, or make them straight shot rockets, or even give them limited ammo. I'm sure there's some way to make these rockets really cool to watch, but possible to avoid.

Well in thruth, Prey had a lot of other things that broke the immersion for me than the PC talking...

Maybe they'll allow you to shoot down the rockets in mid-air? They did it with the APC rockets in Water Hazard, why not the Combine's RPGs?

Of course, if they do this, they'll have to rename the shotgun to "handheld missile shield".

Maybe...
  • RPG soldiers will only be implemeted in special hard areas (like the elevator scene or train station EP1 or the turrets in HL2)
  • you can shoot them down like in Water Hazard?
  • they are only encountered while you are are using the car so you can dodge them (like the APCs in Water Hazard)
  • you can guide their rockets (like that Bradly in HL1)

And the only part of the face I can see is an eye.

Since when were the rockets in HL2 a one-hit kill weapon?

I think people believe this because very few people killed themselves with a rocket launcher. Or if they did, they were low on health and died.

Regardless, it takes your health down ALOT. If you dont drive off quickly, you will die to a zombie or something......

Havnt you ever fired off a rocket then hid behind thin cover only to realize your still staring at a red dot 2 feet in front of your face...

Happened to me when fighting that chopper in lost coast, I wish alt-fire was for dumbfire or something.

My point is that RPG's do massive damage but I would like them for the challenge  on the plus side having your allies blown to hell would look cool.
