Are the combine human or alien? And if they are alien, how in the world did Barney get in their gang?
 
Metrocops are completely human, they just have radios and are mean so they get foodstamps.
 
Then if the combine are human, then what is the deal with that big blob of flesh that Dr. Breen talks to through the TV (I think it's called a combine advisor)? Is that some sort of human or something or what?

No that is one of the Aliens that Control the Combine. The Combine are a Multi-Universe Empire called the "Universal Union".

The Combine soldiers are soldiers for the Union are modified Humans.
Metrocops on the other hand are Fully Human Volunteers.
 
I call the slug things the Combine. They are in charge of it, at least. Actually, I think they're refered to as Combine advisors. In any case they are the overminds and the "Combine" is the human name for the multitude of races that where sent against us.
 
We're still not sure who the original Combine are, although speculation points mainly towards the giant slug things which appear to be the original Combine race - but they are called the Combine because either they take elements of various species and engage in DNA splicing or they're a coalition of various species... or something.
 
Aye, basically the Combine you see on Earth in Half-Life 2 etc are called the Overwatch. The Combine Elite and the Combine Soldier are humans that have been processed and enhanced into biological infantry. The Civil Protection or metrocops are normal people who usually would have signed up for the promise of a better lifestyle.

However, Combine Gunship/Dropship/Strider/Hunter are alien, as well as the forces that must have ravaged Earths armies, we have yet to those other forces yet though. May do by EP3.
 
Wow, I really want to see what a true combine infantry looks like. I reall hope they show that in ep3 at least.
 
the combine advisors are the bastard childs of William Hung and Chuck Norris
 
I always thought the combine were aliens. never figured out about the infantry either.
 
There is no TRUE combine infantry or froces.
There are just many different species.

No, the humanoid enemies we meet in HL2 are all human (or ex-human, or 'transhuman' perhaps). However, Kevin is right, they are just one branch of a many-faceted interdimensional army; an army which is also composed of striders, gunships, dropships, hunters, crab synths, mortar synths, and (we should assume) portantially lots of others which we have not seen and might not ever see.

Strictly speaking, it might not be accurate to refer to the 'transhuman' overwatch as a proper branch of the Combine forces, since we learn from Breen's speech in NP that they may still be on a kind of probation period. The Combine are still testing the human template to see if it is militarily useful. If the transhuman overwatch can't even nail Freeman then the Advisors might conclude that we simply suck, as a weapon.

Maybe it's that sick Graboid, with the Shriekers about to burst out?

Yes, they do.
They just don't have tentacles surrounding they're mouths, but jaws instead.

PSS:Funny, i don't remember ever hearing them actually SHRIEK anytime in the movie...

Well the combine own most of the univirse , they took over xen. The Civil protection are humans who sign up willingly, for a better life , we know this because when the female npc geting food she says "I would sign up for civil protection just to get a decent meal" .There radios suggest that sex(or a simulation of it) is rewarded for a good job. The Overwatch are humans who have been geneticly modified. They have had there groin removed , bits of bio machineary have been added , and there memorys removed. The stalkers are humans who have been suvirly modified or tool use only. No one knows if the stalkers are male or female , but female NPCs say "They will never make a stalker out of me".The striders,airships .ect may have been creatures that have been also modified. The reason that the combine are humonoid is because when the combine came to earth , they needed to create a super soldier that evolved from the primary species on that planet . I refure the combine as Deus ex machina(God by machine), for they have caused a forced/unnatrual evolution. Also Dr.Breen says that the combine has made us 'transhuman' . The combine advidor could have been the orignal form of the combine .Also the combine advisor looks like it depends on all of the machinary around it.
 
Your theory is mostly correct, except for the Xen bit. They never took over Xen. Most of that stuff has been known for a long, long time.

The Combine have the ability to evolve every species they encounter through the force of their own technology. Essentially, Earth in Half-life 2 is undergoing a kind of transformation period; humanity is being absorbed into the Combine war machine, the planet being transformed into an outpost of kinds. The people in the cities are being gradually taken from Earth; transformed into Stalkers - an immortal life of servitude - to be put to use elsewhere. Humanity's suitability as part of the Combine is being put to the test. (I think the end of HL2 is supposed to mark the failure of that, since we don't defeat the Combine, we defeat the Overwatch).

What im so confused about is Gman. In highway 17 you look threw the eyepeice you gman talking to odess , well odess gave you the RPG so that might have somthing to do with it . Also when breen captures you at the end he said "the offer to the highest bidder" so he knows somthing about . Same with the vortguants , the All knowing talks in cryptex (I havnt heard what he says but I will see what hes on about).
 
i believe and still think that gman is an entity who is above all, a powerful race in the form of a human. then again, gman might be a ploy or tactic by valve to deliberately make use to end and answer the whole half life saga. the dudes at valve probably dont know what to do with gman yet.

I'm pretty sure the G-Man explained in HL2 that he is a kind of mercenary hirer (and your the mercenary) and that the rebels managed to get the highest bid for you (what they bid is not known).
 
No offense Xvillanx, but that theory of yours is the official storyline, that everyone, who has played HL2, should know.
 
But the combine is deus ex machina , and the idear that the rebels got the highest bidder makes scence.
 
The Combine are NOT the Deus Ex machina.

And it's all known, that the rebels got the highest bid for Gordon.
You can even hear it in the game.
 
Why arnt they? They are making forced evolution with a machine.
 
Any way the combine will propably be more explaned in ep2.But i still think the combine are god by machine.
 
Oh sorry. They used a machine to evolve us. So they are god but only by machine.
 
Still...clarify...what machine...i haven't seen any machine, that they could use to do that.
 
Well the machine they use to replace our memorys , transform us into transchman
 
And the technology they use to modify us and keep the advisors live don't count.

They're just an advanced alien race.
 
That doesn't make them a Deux Ec Machine - a DEM is something that through it's power ends a story where it's logically impossible.

It can also be other things.
