Commando Toys is a next generation online platform game, featuring militay-based characters in a colorful world. Using state of the art technology, Commando Toys enables players to enter a cartoon like environment to wage war with other players. With a heavy emphasis on action and use of cartoon-based graphics such as the type found in games like Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude, Commando Toys will set itself apart from the rest of the crowd.

The game begins with a simple character selection screen, where players can choose from a variety of player models ranging from soldiers (both male and female) to vehicles (which character-based players can hop in and use the gun or seek cover). After a character has been chosen by each player, a mission objective screen pops up outling your current objectives and tasks. Simply highlighting a task and selecting it assigns you to that task to complete. With a task selected, your points and rewards are greater. Acquiring enemy kills with a task selected character grants you more money and points for your teams point pool. A 50 % increase in point collection is given to a character with a task, over the default 10 %. For example, if player A (no task) kills an enemy he/she will get up to $460 for their money bin. If player B (with a task) kills an enemy he/she will get up to $920. With two or more tasks selected, the rewards are greater. However, if you die while attempting a task, you will be deducted half of the percentage you tallied before death. For example, if you killed two enemies and recieved $1840, $3680 will be taken from your money bin.

Weapons will be standard fare, your typical assortment of pistols, rifles and heavy weapons such as RPG's and mounted machine guns. Weapons can be disarmed in Commando Toys with a quick push of the F key (default). Some basic equipment includes body armor, night vision goggles and ammunition belts.

There's a simple description and brief outline of the project. If interested please PM me or post here. I'm looking for artists both 2d and 3d.

Thanks.

all i can say is i like your avatar and that sound like a very funny concept. hopefully it get pulled off.

Thanks. I appreciate the support and comments. The title has been changed to Commando Toons. The game play is somewhere in between CS: Source and Twisted Metal (for the PS2). Look for more information soon.

The name 'Commando Toys' reminds me too much of 'Army Men' an appauling series of games where you controlled plastic people. Damn, they were atrocious. Best distance yourself from them.

Yes, Commando Toys has been changed to Commando Toons.

Still, now I have the mental image of 'Army Men' in my head. I'll never be able to look at the mod in the same way again...

Still, sounds like a strong concept, although I'm not really one for cartoonish games.

man i love twisted metal so fun!and cs too. this has all the potential to e a good mod whoever tells you this idea is bad is freakin crazy!! :bounce:

Criticism makes us stronger. I love Nintendo's philosphy on game making, how graphics aren't everything. Games like Mario and Zelda are shining examples of amazingly fun games with little graphical power. And I think the cartoonish graphics are a big misconception to some people, as the player models will retain their realistic humanoid look. Games like Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter are good examples of what I'm aiming for. I suppose in some respects, you can say the graphics will be almost comic book-ish.

lol :) I think I understand what you are saying but I find Nindendo's games pretty good looking. It's not because a game is cartoonish that it looks worse than a "realistic game". Games like Mario 64 were really good looking if you want my opinion. They really captured the essence of the 2d mario universe and put it in 3D with those bright colors that are caracteristic of the Mario games... Graphics are not the number one priority when you want to make a good game but it's one of the things people sees first (screenshots). If it looks good, it shows that you are concerned about the quality of your game and most of the time, if you have good graphics, the game is good; It's not good because the graphics are good, it's good because you put efforts in the game in all the aspects. And to come back to the subject, high res textures or high poly models don't necessary mean good graphics. If you can express the right mood and feel of the game with cartoonish graphics, good colors, good lightning and originality, you will succeed. I remember the chrono trigger remake.. hum let me find the link... there you go: http://www.opcoder.com/projects/chrono/
The graphics were pretty simple but how amazing!!

'Operation: Inner Space' remains one of my favourite games of all time, and the graphics are only 256 colour!
