Competition Among Mods

lol, it's so hard to make mods now that it BETTER be the next CS or RO .

Otherwise it's not worth the effort.

Here it comes, next post, watch: "but you get valuable experience when you fail!"

- ...which is true, but you more than get my point.

- Welcome to the predictable future. You argue with people BEFORE they post their reply.

amusing. We have been lucky at CWMP for the most part. I think the real problem isn't the DEV's (though ceartainly some are guilty) It more likely than not from a minority of a mods community. Fanboys who flame other mods and claim affiliation with their favorite mod team. I'm sure everyone who moderates their mod's forums has had top out fires in their boards from exactly that. A little bit of common courtesy would go a hell of a long ways. Any rember the bitch-fest that BF42 modding turned into. Everyone nitpicking and degrading each other. let's hope hl2 doesn't end up that way

Look on the bright side, the idiot mods are starting to die since they're realizing that their team of 15 year olds just doesn't cut it for a mod team.

:(

Well, one of the best ways to stem the tide of bitchiness is to reach out to other mods. I'm currently helping out one of my competitors with a few code problems, just because I'm nice.
Although, I know my mod will get its face ground into the dirt by Pi Mu Rho's one... PiMuRhowned!

Don't worry - we're making a tech demo, not a mod. It's never going to be released to the public as a HL2 mod.

You mean, I don't have to go into hiding when you go public with your work? Wow, I have reason to code again!
I guess you're still not ready to tell us more, no?

-Angry Lawyer

About the game project? Nope.

I'm doing something a little more public soon, though (that isn't unrelated, but not the same thing)

Fron what I've researched on your posts, the models seem very C&C-ish, reminding me of the original game (the best in the series), and you're coding something RTS-like for your tech-demo. And your avatar is a rail-gun tank, I think.

Still, we generic public folks are eager to hear what you've done so far.

-Angry Lawyer

Heh, one day my boss is going to see my posts on here and I'm going to get shot. You're pretty much on the money with what we're doing on that project.

The other one is a small HL2 mod that we're doing because....well, because we can. Gameplay-wise, it's not related to the main project.

So your actual release work for HL2 doesn't include playing an RTS? Muhah, I still have total control on the true RTS subsection!

Still...can you get me a job? :p I've got all these A-Levels, and I'm studying for a degree in computing, and still I'm stuck in a dead-end job scanning pages for a pension company.

So, your small mod... what playstyle will that be?

-Angry Lawyer

If I told you, it'd give the whole thing away. I'll release some media in a day or two. Promise.

But does that rule out the job??? *grins*

I look forward to seeing your media release.

-Angry Lawyer

There's usually always a few people I keep in mind with regards to jobs. It's not my place to actually offer any, though. All I can do is put a word in the right ear. It's worked for 3 people so far...

But I doubt you're in the South-East, which would make commuting Hell for me. And for some reason, I doubt I'm one of your few people you keep in mind :)

Still, what do you recommend for impressing software companies? Should I bring my mod with me, or something, to any interviews?

-Angry Lawyer

If it's for a game company, definitely make them aware of your mod.

If it's for something non-game related, mod work may be seen as frivolous and could possibly work against you.

For coding, anyway.

Fair play. Now, to find a game company in the Sussex area...

Aww crap, job-hunting's impossible!

worked for me

Yes, but you work at McDonalds.

i was the IT assistant, your thinking of starmonkey

Aww relax AngryLawyer, Pi's game is actually an RTS porno. (I got the inside scoop, the two factions are, you guessed it...)
Better stop while the mods still wub my cute wittle awatar!

Argyll...you probably don't remember me, but I used to be "General Shrimpy" on hlradio. Anyways, I'm glad you changed your name from CO-IN :p
Mod team leaders don't let mod team members surf drunk.

Err, the two are unrelated.

Team leaders should keep their members in order, and if he encourages / instigates it, nukes. The answer to all of life's problems.

Your helping out other mods too?
Or are we your competitors?

: p

I'm helping out one hell of a lot of different people - it helps me learn how the game's put together.
