Computer MAY ruin your life!

I spend almost every waking minute in front of a computer. If I'm not on them, I'm reading about them. It's what I do; I'm very happy with it. I could never understand how getting drunk, or going out to clubs, or bars, or school dances, movies, whatever, could be thought of as fun. I've always considered it to be just the opposite actually, and so I do not participate in ANY of it. The people I see from day to day, the ones participating in all these things, seem to be the ones wasting their lives and doing damage to their body and mind. Computers have enriched my life, and have not harmed me in any way.

Your an exact clone of me :p...honestly :)

Amen, I totally agree. Except I like to watch movies, but now that I have a projector I don't need to go to the theater!

qckbeam thats a good balance for the argument but...that just portrays you as a complete antisocial dick who would rather spend time in a virtual world than be a human being...no offense btw :) drinking, drugs and smoking are the real waste of life, and anyone who does too much of any of them is a (too rude to say and not enough space on all the forums for me to finish what i really wany to say...).
imo u have 2 spend time with people to keep yourself in the real world, but still save time for things you enjoy doing like being on the computer for example.
tbh tho i was like qckbeam: never ever went out, just stayed on my comp ALL day. went out a few times for the sake of it, and have balanced the 2 out now.

What you consider to be "living your life" is intensely subjective. For example Rock Stars, get pissed every night, sleep with loads of women, and the rest. What happens? They end up depressed with their lives by the time they're 30 or 40 and commit suicide, or end up as alcoholics or drug addicts, unable to do much of anything any more, they spend months on tour aware from friends and family.

Ask most veteran Rock Stars and they'll tell you, that kind of life isn't as enjoyable as it looks.

Sportsmen ... they spend hour after hour practicing their sport, they can't drink, haven't particularly got a lot of time to work of relationships.

Personally I think you should stop telling people how to live their lives, if they enjoy it, let them do it.

For example I don't really enjoy going out and getting hammered every night, or every Friday night. I respect that someone may enjoy that, and I let them get on with it. I also don't like being in rooms with a lot of people, I feel crowded and awkward; some people may enjoy socializing in that manner, so I let them get on with it. I hate clubs, and dancing like a freaking idiot, but some people enjoy doing that so I let them get on with it.

I enjoy my computer, it makes me happy, so I would ask that they let me get on with that.

I've had my experiences with things you have mentioned and none of my experiences have been particularly enjoyable.

I enjoy going out with my friends, yes, and I do that now and again, because I enjoy it.

I don't need the rest.
Well said. :)

how can u say it ruins relationships? I just made one with a girl on yahoo who says she's incredibly good looking and for some reason wants to meet me in the back alley behind a porno theatre... and for some reason she want to meet me right next to a rusty black van with no windows... dont know why :|

If I'm with friends it's at school or at their house playing video games

heh, none taken :)

I am antisocial, not by design, but by choice. I'm not quite sure what you mean by saying I sound like someone who would rather "spend time in a virtual world" than be "a human being". What exactly am I doing that makes me somehow less human than others? I'm still in my teens, should I go out with my peers, seek friends, party, dance, go to movies, play a sport...would that make me more human? No it wouldn't, it would simply serve to block me from pursuing the important things in my life. I don't need any of those distractions; I'm still a human being, perhaps even more human than those who would choose to participate in those things, since I don't keep myself occupied with the little distractions which so many my age see as the essence of life. My understanding of human emotion, and my ability to feel for others, seems to surpass the abilities of most people my own age who are so wrapped up in themselves that they are blind to the suffering of others. I'm not a dick either. If you were to meet me in real life I'm willing to bet you would think I was a nice guy :)

my point is to live your life in your teens. u wont be able to go to parties, seek friends etc later in life. the only freinds you will have later in life are other old age pensioners and the attractive nurse that you pee in a cup for lol. just get out and live your life WHILE YOU CAN. dont throw it away like u are (my opinion..no offense again btw lol) and like i did. i wasnt trying to imply that u werent being humanm, it was just a figure of speech :). however i do agree that people our age think partying etc are the essence of life, and they are completely wrong. then again i would point that more towards the 15 year old brats and alike who think drugs and alcohol are cool. i just wanna beat them into submission lol.

thats a beautiful speech btw...really moving lol. even thought of being president or prime minister or something...rofl.

It''s fun..UNTIL THE HELL BRAKES DOWN..
Meh, just kidding :D

But believe me when I say that there comes this moment in your life when you should go to work, should make money and maybe fed your children with that money too. Then you realize that you must cut from the time spent on computer and start doing other things as well. Dishing, Cleaning, Hoovering, baby sitting, making love to your wife's sister, go shopping etc.. That's life and everyone of us must face it. I take you are a teenager and that's ok, everything is, until the point it starts to control your Real Life.
Please, no offend meant to anyone I'm just a bad writer :upstare:

One should not ever stop doing what they love doing, but everything must be put into perspective.

Oh, I do CG on my comp so I need it forever. And of course mostly I play with it :) And the girls are sooo beautiful here in summer so I must live it.

:farmer:

k ur kind of a pervert but still. making love to your wife's sister?? u cant just go out and pick up a girl in the summer...or maybe uve got bond's charm and looks lol.

you do have a good point. u need to know the basics in life to live your life.

Ok, well what you are describing (excluding the sleeping with your wifes sister thing) are the basic function in life. Yes, I must work to provide myself with income, oddly enough my work is done on the computer. I wash my dishes, and myself for that matter, on a regular basis. I take measures to make sure my living space is reasonably clean. I babysit my aunts six month old child regularly. I shop for food and clothing when it's needed, and I make it a point to keep my body in prime condition, since any mind is useless if the body housing it breaks down. I'm not quite sure what you're getting at. Almost every person tends to the basic functions needed to sustain life.

And indeed 'when you get a job' for most of us computer nerds is 9-7 at a computer and with much overtime :)

Yes, qckbeam well said, Its ok to have a party now and then but i dont see the appeal of doing it every single night I however enjoy going out shopping, to see films and other random fun activites but thats no possible anymore. So Id like to go out but if i did i would need to replace my liver now and then. Tis a shame

im going to have to slot myself into the "computer dependant" catagory.

as soon as i get out of high-school im going to be plugging it as an assistant system admin, so my life sort of revolves around computers. and i love it :D

i also do CG in my spare time ;)

its a way of life really. some people collect stamps, others give themelves to their computer :)

I don't use computers much these days... about six days per month, plus random web usage in the library. Boring shit.

I have a bit of a reppy on the forums of being the other extreme.. but tbh, I do spend a lot of time in front of the computer, and I love it :) but I like balencing the two.. I've got to the point where sometimes I have a big urge to go on the computer, and if I'm at home, I'll be upstairs, tapping away

Oh, and you can 'go out and pick up a girl' ffs it's not hard, just get chatting/dancing :)

thats cause british teenagers are easy ;)

think about it. Teens are sex-crazed as is, add alcohol and you get insanity.

Yeah, Alcohol does the trick allright ;) Either it makes the ugly woman look fine or the good looking go crazy for you, It's a win-win situation :)

I spend a lot of time on my computer, but I do other things too. I read a lot, I've started drawing a little, I paintball every few weeks (hopefully weekly soon) and I've met loads of awesome people through it. If I had a choice, I wouldn't spend so much time on the computer though. It's one of the only things I can do since I live miles away from most my friends, and the internet serves are a way I can communicate with them (If they can figure out how to work MSN...). There is absolutely nothing to do in the horrible little town I live in. Man, I can't wait till I can drive :(

My gf dosn't like computers....but thats probably because she dosn't have DSL yet. Mabie then she'll be able to enjoy some of this :)
