Heres a theory on the long over due Counter Strike: Condition Zero. Over 2 years after their initial release date, there is no way they're still working on the simple version of CS that they made movies of and gave screenshots of so long ago. They have given no new content and keep pushing the release back close to the same time as Half Life 2. Its obvious reading the forums that no one here will play their game the way it was presented at this point. Its outdated and no good. I believe that they started to created the game and realized it sucked well before their initial game. As we've all said, it doesn't look like that much fun anymore to play CS alone with bots, new maps, and new goals. It just doesn't compare to Half Life 2 or any other game being developed.
I believe they realized this while they had Half Life 2 in relatively early development and after creating much of CZ and putting out movies and screenshots they decided to scrap it and put in the source code and make it up to day. Condition Zero now represents a completely different game that will come out with Half Life 2 and represent the highly speculated form of Counter Strike 2.
How could they possibly be working on a game like CZ while building Half Life 2. They're much smarter than that to believe it would be at all profitable. The next time you see any screenshots or video of CZ it will be a new game entirely and release just after or with Half Life 2. Perhaps we'll even see it at E3 this year, but I'm not hoping too strongly.
