Here's my problem

I recently received my 9800 non-pro in the mail, the problem though is that I don't want to connect it to my power supply wrong and fux the whole thing up.

I don't have an instruction manual because I got it for real cheap. I tried searching this forum, other forums, hardware sites, yahoo, etc, but couldn't find anything.

Also, for some reason ati does not have an online instruction manual for the 9800 series, but it does for every other card.

There are two connections that are coming out of my psu, but I don't know which one to hook it up to. If anyone could help me out here or link me to a guide I would really appreciate it.

[/end noob question]

Take the power cable out of the hard drive. Connect the power cable that was going to the hard drive onto one of the ones from the 9800. Now connect the other cable from the 9800 to the hard drive.

Only one type of cable will fit into your card. I cant remember if 9800 still uses the smaller floppy connection or the larger cable (for harddrives/cd drives/fans) (my 9700 uses the smaller, though its a small->large cable anyway :)).
In either way, try to connect with a free cable, that's not attached to anything else (its 2-3 on one cable). If you connect to many (ie harddrive-harddrive-gcard) it may suck to much juice from it and malfunction. It works most of the time though.

Heh, even though my card didn't come with a manual it did come with its own cable.

Ok, this might sound confusing, but I'm going to try to describe it the best way I can.

There is an extra connection hanging loose that comes from the connection between my psu and my hardrive. There are also several extra connections coming from my psu.

So my question is - Can I connect one end of my cable to my 9800, one end to my psu, and the middle connection to the extra hardrive connection?

Arg, sorry, I'm confused. Would anyone be willing to chat? :dozey:

Well, your not online, but yes, you can connect the power supply connection to the ATI cable and the other end of the cable to a Hard Drive, or you can just directly connect the ATI card to that extra connector on the hard drive power cable you mentioned, assuming it is the same size. Considering These connectors won't go in the wrong way or anything without some serious effort (and breaking stuff), it will be hard to mess it up.

ok,you got one plug that should be attached to the card already, that will leave you 2 plugs free. take the middle plug and connect it to a plug coming from your ps(and not connected to anything else)then take the last free plug from your vid card and plug it into your harddrive.

I bet some of you were wondering whether I killed my pc or not, well.....

After a little chat with Sgt. Igneri, I hooked it up and everything is running great, with the exception of Vice City

Thanks to everyone who posted tips and special thanks to Sgt. Igneri.

Cheers!

Yeah the GtA series (well part 3 and vice anyway) on PC has always had a bit of trouble with Radeon cards. Have you got the latest drivers for the card? also try downloading the latest patch for vice city (if there is one)
