So now that the PSN thing is back I've been thinking about grabbing a PS3 for a couple of games. And that Blu-ray player would be kinda neat to have.

The games I really want-

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero (PS2)
Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift (PS2)
Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 (PS2)

Socom 4/Confrontation
MAG

Gran Turismo 5
Little Big Planet

EDIT: Also there is supposed to be some Initial D game coming out for it that I would buy day 1

Would you guys say a PS3 would be a worthwhile investment if those are the games I mainly want?

I basically only use my PS3 as a Blu-ray player and I am really happy with it. That it also runs games is just a bonus really. The only games I've played extensively on it were RDR, ModNation Racers and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX.

I bought my PS3 primarily so I could buy Heavy Rain(haha..hah), and turned out to like a lot of other games a lot better.

At this price? Definitely. I got one at launch and still use it a little more than the 360. This is also my second 360 as well as third controller. Ive had one PS3 controller and the battery still holds a good charge, my 360 charging kit broke after a month and the buttons started sticking on the first damn day, my PS3 buttons still dont. Im not sure why as both are made in the same shithole in shithole China, but the PS3 seems better manufactured by a LARGE margin. This may have changed as the price went down but the phat was damn well built. Backwards compatibility is now supposed to be as shitty as the 360s so I would look for one of the old MGS 4 bundles if you really want to go for PS2 games

Strangely, my PS2 broke right after the warranty expired but the old school XBOX is still working fine

I think so. Lots of solid exclusives now. Revision 2 of console is a lot less unwieldy, doesn't generate much heat, and has an internal power source + 160gb of space, so that never really becomes a concern. What is shit is that it doesn't come with HD composite or HDMI cable, which is the stupidest thing ever, so make sure to order those with the system.

LBP, MGS3, Demon's Souls, Uncharted series, God of War 3 and the PSN back catalog is getting better. I've been revisiting Final Fantasy 8, which is nifty. PSN also lets you play games with your friends without a Plus account - which I really appreciate, as I already pay for XBL Gold.

Make sure you get a PS3 that is backwards compatible if you want to play PS2 titles on it, given that not all PS3s are PS2 B/C.

To quote wikipedia's article on the subject, "The 40GB, 160GB and 320GB versions, as well as the 80GB re-release and the slim version of the PS3 are not backwards compatible with PS2 games because all hardware chips from the former console are omitted and there is no software emulation. However, all versions of the PS3 are able to play PS One games."

Only the original phat 60gb version is BC AFAIR. Extremely hard to find. They were on ebay years ago selling for crazy money.

Also, Shakermaker haz no gaems.

Well worth it Frost, for what you want it for.
