converting video formats

How do i change the format of a video so i can edit them in windows movie maker? More specifically quicktime.mov to avi's

Get a real movie editor like Sony Vegas or something so you can import it right in.

im poor, im stuck with movie maker. Im sure there is some free converting program....

I'm sure there is too, use Google. I don't know of any off the top of my head but I know I've used some before to convert videos into WMV to put on my Zune.

A few different options really.

Quicktime Pro
Super <- I use this (scroll to the bottom and click start download. next screen may also need you to click download again)
other option, rad video tools

ALSO you might want to try Avid Free DV (no longer updated) instead of Windows Movie Maker. Supports .mov files...
Avoiding multiple conversions is best since the video quality will degrade each time.
