Just to show they haven't completely forgotten about Counter-Strike: Source, Valve have decided to release a much-needed update fixing some naughty exploits. Hopefully this will be the start of many more updates for one of the most popular multi-player games on Steam.[br]

  • SMX, GCF, and SYS files cannot be downloaded
  • Files whose extensions contain whitespace are not allowed to be downloaded
  • Filenames that begin with path separators are not allowed to be downloaded
[br]

As usual, to receive the updates, restart your steam client.

Doubt this. But hey at least they fixed some exploits.

Hope they fix the boring.

I don't think it's boring. I used to play it a lot when I first got it. It's just... old, all the same stuff repeatedly. "Time to defuse the bomb... again." I think if they actually started working on it again they could make it a lot better (maybe some new modes?). I would like to see something like, a disguised terrorist sneaking in with the CTs. You know, something interesting, even if my suggested mode is far off from cs gameplay. lol

All it is is different ways to get from point A to point B. Die early or die late, it's still a repetitive process.

Doubt what? That it's one of the most popular multiplayer games on steam?
Code:
Current Peak Game
48,575	115,175 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Multiplayer
36,631	92,109 Counter-Strike: Source
33,669	76,473 Counter-Strike
11,276	19,492 Team Fortress 2
9,135	24,346 Football Manager 2010
That's the top-5 games played on Steam according to their own usage stats. Every single time I've checked that list, Counter-Strike: Source has either been top of it, or second place. As for it being boring, well, that's subjective.

EDIT: Or you could be doubting that it's the start of many more updates. I'd agree with that to be honest. Valve seems to have too many things on their plate to focus on a well-played but buggy game. Perhaps if less people played it they would spend more resources on it.

Cstrike is buggy? I thought it was just all the mediocre players complaining about rego.

It's practically people making excuses on their bad aim/death.

It is 90% codswallop and placebo effect, however there are obvious bugs in the game that cause 'bad reg'. Anything from improper server set-up (such as making a server run at an unstable 100-tick rate when a constant 66-tick would be twice as good) to servers running maps far too long without re-loading them, causing over-time degradation.

So yeah it does get used as an excuse, but only because the bugs are there to be used as excuses.

I know there are problems with CSS but that as a link is a load of horseshit. A thread of hormonal pseudo-pro counter strikers who think they know how rates / latency affect their play. Ask someone who actually knows things about netcode, like The Brick.

I'm not really defending it though as I find the game the opposite to fun & 1.6 vastly superior.

I enjoyed the hell out of CS:S. I just found new games to play instead. It is hard to believe that there are people out there who have been going after hostages and planting bombs in the same maps for 10+ years now. Think about that one for a bit.

Yes that's what I was doubting, sorry for the confusion :D.

I think maybe they could take some time off of tf2, I mean, tf2 has had countless updates including new content and such now. Truthfully I don't think the game is very much fun anymore because of it, it was fun for me when it first came out but now it's like... crap, I don't play it enough so I'm just gonna get owned by players that do. But back to the point, time off tf2 = update to css?

EDIT: I'm not dissing tf2 :D It's just not my type of game anymore because of all the updates.

I think what he meant was that, for a game to be out for a long time, giving them new content would absolutely turn over what they've established in the years its out. New maps, may be the extent, but if they were to change any gameplay, Valve would surely be hated by the community. You can leave all the alterations to the modding community, I heard Warcraft 3 mod was big.

You heard that, did you? I heard Avatar sold a lot of tickets. :)

I think Valve is purposely trying to get the CSS community to hate them by not updating the game. It makes everyone complain like assholes. All the complaining assholes make the more appealing for the young audience, as most kids are assholes too. All the assholes affect normal people into being assholes too, which in turn makes the game more attractive to even more assholes. So the more assholes play the game, the more assholes will buy it. All the kids growing up form a steady supply of assholes; They form a consistent and continuous player base. So CSS is a self-sustaining, steady income for Valve, and they want to keep it that way.

That is my educated guess.

Valve runs on assholes?

I also agree with BakonGuy, however Valve need to finish the TF2 class updates to make everything balanced before they go ahead and make CSS epic. I doubt the gameplay needs changing, but there are significant bugs that need addressing that both communities ('pro's and 'pubber's) want. The servers are one thing that needs to be looked at, but there are many other important aspects too, like the nade-bug, or the incredibly annoying Dust2 floor-bug. Anything that crashes a game needs to be fixed first.
