Counterstrike Problem

I had to go buy a new half life because my friend lost my old. I got home and installed half life and then counterstrike 1.6 Whenever i try to play both counterstrike or half life the game exits and says illegal operation performed. Any one know what to do? If you need to know exactly what the illegal operation screen said just say so and i will post it as soon as i can.

1. Make sure all your Half-Life CD stuff is uninstalled
2. Install Steam
3. Enter your CD key

I unistalled half life and counterstrike and all that stuff and installed steam and is still perfoms a #@$% illegal operation i cant go on with out counter strike much longer.

You might try the Steam forum for help... them 'Illegal Operation' thingies sure are tricky devils.

What are your system specs? OS etc... And does the error occurs when you double click on "Counter-Strike" in the game pannel? or did you have any problems during installation?

Im using windows xp (home) with 2.8 ghz and 512mb of memory and a radeon 9600. Counterstrike and half life will work fine for about 20 seconds and then the illegal operation screen comes up. No problems in installation either.

Anyhow if you cant play counter strike then i dont see what the problem is?!?
