Crash to desktop

Ok, I got HL2 all installed, updated and what have you. Now, I go to start it, and it gets past the guy with the valve in his eye, flashes the blurry load screen, and crashes to desktop.

I dont know what to do

System specs

Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
2GB RAM
160 HD space
ATI X800XT Platinum Edition

Close all background programs. Disable antivirus if you have to. How long into the loading process does it go?

it flickers for not half a second, its like *bip* crash to desktop

Try running it with this in the launch options: -map_backround none

I'm not sure if it'll work but its worth a try at least, thats all I can come up with.

Yes, I uses X800 also and I got some problems playing Far Cry so I patch up my driver and now it's fine. Check out the latest driver, it might help

Also, you can make sure that all of your Steam files are ok and they aren't corrupted by clicking here to validate your cache files.

Test your RAM with Memtest86 if you use dual channel try taking one of the sticks of ram out and try the game could be faulty ram.
