Hi all, im new to this forum..

I want to ask if anyone knows how to create my own dedicated server.. When i create one it doesnt show it in the server list, and no-one from my friends can see it.. It only shows the servers in the lan.. (i made the sv_lan 0 thingy).. Maybe i need to forward the router ports? How do i do it?:x

I want to also ask if anyone can host a 24/7 dedicated server for my clan (if i dont manage to create my own)

I hope you're behind a Linksys Router, because that's the only router that I know how to forward ports on. If not, you'll have to look up "port forwarding" for your type of router, if you have one.

Just open Internet Explorer and type in the address bar:
http://192.168.1.1/

It might ask for a username and password. The default, I think, is to leave the username blank, and put "admin" as the password. If it lets you through, click on Advanced at the top, then click on Forwarding.

In this screen, starting from the far left of the top line, put in this info:
Customized Applications: HL2DM (can be anything. it's just a name so you remember what you're forwarding in this line)
Ext.Port: 27015 -to- 27020
Check "Protocol UDP"
For IP address, click on your Local Area Connection icon in your system tray, then go to "Support" tab, and look at the numbers after "IP Address". This is your IP Address on your home network. Put the past 3 letters (like 101 or 102) into the IP Address field... then just check "Enabled".

Remember to only edit one row, such as the top line.

Keep in mind that your IP address will change from time to time, if your computer is disconnected from the router, or if the router is ever turned off or reset. It helps to bookmark your router page, so you can easily go back to it in the future. With port forwarding, you can host servers from any game, as long as you look up what ports to forward on google, and whether to check the "TCP" box, "UDP" box, or both.

I hope it works  If you have a fast cable connection, you can probably expect to get good ping with many players (as long as it's a dedicated server), but if the ping is high, check the Dedicated Server window, and make sure the CPU useage isn't too high, and that other people aren't downloading stuff on other computers in the house.

You can also paste these settings one by one into the Ded Server's Console for improved settings:
mp_teamplay 1 (only paste this to activate team deathmatch)
mp_flashlight 1
sv_forcepreload 1 (prevents hitches when new players join. must have at least 512 mb RAM)
mp_fraglimit 50 (set this to whatever)
mp_timelimit 40 (use this to set a time-limit)
sv_maxupdaterate 30
sv_minupdaterate 10
sv_region 255
