I havent got raising the bar, but i want it, so could someone who HAS got it give a list of the creatures cut from it?

There were more creatures cut from it than they let on, you know.

Cremators were one of my most anticipated. They were supposed to use flamethrowers, and wander around in big green sock-costume things.

They also removed the creature called "Prowler" It could've been cooler if they included it in the final game.

Hmm... but i've heard most people say that Assassins were turned to fast zombies. anyway, if wat ur saying is true... the original design of the prowler is damn much cooler!

Mooma's right, Fast Zombies have the code originally used for Prowlers.

Combine Assassins were cut completely, but their code is pretty much intact in the game

I think the Combine Alien Soldier and the Cremator would've rocked!

Houndeyes,
Bullsquid,
Hydra,
some combine soldier variants,
Icthyosaur(I'm not including the beginning one, you don't actually get to fight it.
Flying headcrabs??(I think it was a joke by Valve or some magazine "We don't even want to tell you about the flying headcrabs")

I would have liked to see a puzzle creature, like the tentacle.

Are we allowed to talk about this stuff if it's in Raising the bar?

Anyway, in the book it says the AI for the Combine assasins is the same AI thats used to the fast zombies.

And i think the flying Headcrabs was an idea someone in the dev team had, don't think they ever made any art for it because noone thought it'd work well.

Nope, top secret hush hush ;)

You are allowed to discuss it, quote it (in small parts at least).

You are not allowed to copy out large lumps of text or post scans on it.

Discussion of it is fine. We're not living in a 1984 society yet.

It says the Combine *alien* assassin had the AI: I.e. the Prowler. The Combine were billed to have a human assassin too - similar to those in the original game.

Where Prowlers an early name given to the Cremators. Although ultimately cut, their soul lived on in the Fast Zomies

I think the the previewers were looking at those videos of the manhacks, cross-eyed

Cremators and Prowlers were two different enemies. The Prowlers got turned into Fast Zombies. The Cremator was untimately cut and never replaced. :(

The cremators head is still in the game. In Eli's lab theres a jar with like a green ball with eye's, that's the cremators head.

The cremators didnt wield flamethrowers, they used spray hoses that dissolved organic matter.

But yeah, never appeared in the game, just the head, which itself was going to be a weapon.

They also cut the antlion king.

I assumed Flamethrower, due to the name Cremator. Conjures images of burning.

Somebody told me flamethrower, and i assuemd the same thing because it fit, but raisign the bar proved it wrong :)

If only they kept that weapon...

Well, there's a .c++ weapon file in the SDK that doesn't get included in the build called 'Immolator', which shoots out a green beam which burns things, so I wonder if that could be the code for it. It doesn't have a weapon model, or anything, though.

There's a lot of things in the code that pertain to cut things. Like the projectile types of the Mortar Synth. And the AI code for the Combine Female Assassin. The houndeye, bullsquid and hydra are there too. As well as some Strider-exploding gun.

The antlion king was going to be even bigger than the strider!! In proportions with Gordon, Gordon could stand inbetween his toes!... Now that would have been interesting to fight!

I really was looking forward to fighting stalkers... the way they made them sound in RTB was genuinely horrific, and it's a shame that you only get to see them ambling around in the Citadel without any actual combat.

By the way, on your ride through the Citadel, I remember a couple of very saurian looking synths walking along a hallway below you (this is the 2nd iron maiden ride.) I don't own RTB and the stalker info I got was from that shitty, shitty sampler that came with the CE (I am never making that mistake again.) Does RTB mention what the hell those are?

Those are Crab Synths as you said. They are the same species as the Striders. In HL2: RTB they are metioned and there is some nice artwork to accompany it. I really recommend getting HL2:RTB, it's a really good read, or just to look at the cool artwork.

Crab Synths - the larger ones - seem to be heavily armoured, angry Synth creatures. The model - although it has incomplete animations - has some form of gatling-gun tucked away inside it - presumably it was supposed to fold out.
Oh, and it has a 'charge' animation. Chances are, judging by the shape of the plating, it was supposed to ram people too.

The other one is a Mortar Synth. The animations included show a part of it flinging like a catapult. From the residual parts of it left in the source code, it was supposed to launch two types of ordinance:

1. 'Energy Grenade'. What I read of the source seems to imply this was some sort of explosive that swelled to a large size, and slowly shrank over a period of time, dealing damage based on how long it had been in the world.

2. 'Beam Grenade'. From what I read, it launches two small projectiles, connected by a lightning beam, or something. And every so often, little bolts of lightning would shoot out and strike other opponents.

Of course, I could be wrong, considering how obscure and incomplete the code is.

Indeed, i read that in RTB and was like "WHA?!"

Wonder what the Synths would have been like to fight? They sound really interesting in RTB and from the sounds of things found in the Source code it sound slike they have interesting attacks.

And the Antlion king would have been cool too. Wonder how you would have defeated it though? Imagine if you killed it and you were underneath it, whoops *Squash*
Heh :D

so the heads of the cremator is in the eli's lab

that can mean that the cremator exist in the storyline but it wasnt included in HL2?
for example maybe it will appear in a expansion
or is in the lab just for decoration?

I think it's just for decoration. Maybe in an expansion or mod it'll be used.

Plus his head is the light green/pale green head with wierd eyes. It's in a jar on the first table to the right as you get out of the elevator.

well, I heard that the leaked beta had a Bullsquid all animated, but did not die like a ragdoll, and if you look at the hl2 model viewer, there is a ichy model all animated too

I hear that another creature that wasnt used was a creature of the space captured by the combine

can someone explain about it?

If only. They could have put one in Sandtraps. One giant sleeping one on the beach. That would have forced me to stay off the sand lol.

That was originally meant to be used in game got cut. Now its used in the teleportation sequence at the start.

"I hear that another creature that wasnt used was a creature of the space captured by the combine"

Give me some info on this, at the moment i cant tell what you're talking about.

Some of the creatures that were cut off from the game are going to be in HL3 ( or in a hl2 expansion ) , like hydra . Maybe the cremators will have a role there ? And that AntLion King ...

Again, another creature that could have spiced things up a bit. It would have gone perfectly in the mines area after Ravenholm. Every water sequence after the intro, I was expecting one to pop out, but didn't. We wouldn't have a real means of killing it, since the crossbow isn't until later in the game, but it would have been a memorable encounter.

I just hear that in one interview whit doug lombardi he mentioned few things cutted and he say something like "also was removed a space creature that was captured by the combine" or something like that

there is no assasiness in HL2... NOOooOOo!! :(

Maybe give a fast firing .357 magnum to a fast zombie and this is something to fear and kill with the most brutal weapon at hand.

I got to admit the snipers are much more intelligent in HL2 .. but even more easier to avoid.

If they didn't have the laser the Snipers would be really hard to avoid. I suppose they gave them the laser sights just so you can live to actually complete the game :p

To be honest if you put the Ichytsour (can't spell the bitches name) in the mines you wouldn't have stood a chance at making it through... Most of the guns you had then don't fire underwater. Just the pistol i think. You want to take one on with just a crowbar and pistol ;)?

Does anyone remember that cool concept art of a combine with a trenchcoat? That was cool looking, and it should've been some kind of variation of a combine soldier.

I'm kinda glad they didn't have human assassins in HL2, the ones in HL1 annoyed me and freaked me out when they just come around a corner, and it's always creepy to hear them running around...

that was the coolest part though. I would have loved to come across an area and hear the tell tale "pft pft pft pft" of their footsteps

its a shame really, a little extra variety could have improved the game a good deal. The combine were fun to fight, but i think they were a bit overused
