Cryostasis looks impressive

Looks kinda cool. A few iffy things here and there but interesting nonetheless.

I think someone posted this awhile back. Might've been Willie. I found it meh.

Looks like Penumbra and Bioshock had a baby... except the game play looks a lot less interesting.

I intend to avoid anything with the word Cry in like the plague.

You avoid Crystalis? Dude that game was a masterpiece.

Wiki says in the 80s. Apparently it was released in Russia in December 08, Western release in February.

Ah, 80's then. I saw the weapons and vaguely recalled seeing a date, but I haven't really looked into this game at all.

I've been keeping my eye on this actually. Seems kinda interesting.

Atmosphere and concept are what I find interesting in this game. I don't expect a shining new combat system, just a well written story and a thrilling setting.

Its pretty cool game , like i siad before you need a good pc to run it.

Wait....Wha..?
So is this BioShock?
or Cryostasis, whatever the thread title says?

****, Europe is the shit these days when it comes to hardcore gaming.

<3

Played the Russian version, it was a bit shite. :(

Since I'm interested in this game, could you please explain your impressions?

Okay, well...alot has been made over the graphics, but from what I played, they were not that impressive, some effects for water dripping down the rust work looked nice, but nothing I haven't seen before, also, the character models leave quite a bit to be desired.
The performance was also quite iffy, nowhere near as bad as Saints Row 2, but still, in rooms where there was nothing it would slow to a crawl, yet when there were some of the graphical effects on screen it would run nicely, which I could not understand at all.

Controls were okay, standard fps fare, but the creepy moments do become very formulaic, which boild sown to: walk into a room with a body, breif flashback of body when it was alive, then a jolt into reality with the said body attacking you, then you kill it and reality changes back to when you found the body. This was literally rinse, repeat for the 5 or so levels I played of it.
Though the game was in Russian, I had an english txt patch, so I don't know whether it was down to that or the actual story, it just came across as confusing.

There is quite a delay from the Russian version to English though, so they may have addressed some of these things, and I'll still give it another try, I just will not be expecting much from it.

Would love to see this technology/future technologies implemented in the next Stalker game. That is if my country can get it's ass out of the gutter.

I too have played(and finished) Cryostasis, it's been out for several months. It's a decent game but nothing special IMO, and certainly not anything like Bioshock.. Not in my opinion anyway.

Ill keep my eye on this one. Seems to have a few interesting ideas and the atmosphere looks kickass.

While its atmosphere is well-executed, its nothing original. This game is going to have to prove itself of having something truly unique to convince me to invest in it. Otherwise its a 'been there, done that' kinda game that i've already played millions of times (Bioshock, condemned, silent hill, earlier resident evils)

Why is everyone saying it looks like BioShock? Because there's water? BioShock is a failed art-deco underwater utopia, Cryostasis is an ice breaker ship lost in the arctic. BioShock is really colorful and quite stylized, Cryostasis is dark and gritty. There's a little bit of BioShock in the look of Cryostasis, but also a bit of Condemned, and STALKER (It doesn't really look like STALKER, but has a similar atmosphere. It has a lot to do with the Eastern European style of game design, I think. Less theatrics, a more subtle approach to creating a game world.)

We may say that every FPS out there is nothing original (FEAR 2, FarCry 2, and so on). The trailers of Cryostasis reminded me of Bioshock 'cause I see a strong atmosphere oriented setting. But I don't have a monster machine, so I think I'll pass it.

It doesn't take a monster machine to play it.

I got a dual-core 2.5Ghz CPU, 2 gigs of RAM and a 7900GT 256MB, and I could run it fine none the less.:)

Still chugs in places though, am I right?

yep, chugs frequently. and the game freezes for a sec or two when autosaving. The most annoying thing I encountered so far was right at the start: Those damn huskys - constantly barking for minutes until you enter the ship :frown:

The rest seems kind of interesting so far

The whole ice/husky section is reminiscent of the bad graphics in Soldier Of Fortune 1.
