Crysis news/info thread

It works ok on my 7600GS , almost smooth on everything medium but 800x600 res (yeah...still fine though) playable at 1024x768 everything medium, and when 1280x1024 & everything is low runs smooth.

I prefer at 800x600..yeah it could use a bit AA in this res lol..

Here's some screenshot I took:

It works almost perfectly on my 8800GTS 640mb with the Dx9 version of Dx10 (cfg fiddlin') and 1024x768 and 2xAA.

I love the graphics, and the gameplay's not bad actually. I thought it was gonna be the suck, but you can have a surprising amount of fun with it all.
I will maybe be picking this up on release.

how well does the 4200 perfom in other games for you?
Im planning to get that next month witha 8800GT :D

All these games maxed out settings at 1024x768 with no drop in frame rates.

Bioshock
Call Of Duty 4 Demo
Quake Wars
Orange Box
Jericho
F.E.A.R.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
Overlord

Games I can run at Max at 1024x768 that I get some slow down in.

Rainbow Six Vegas
Spiderman 3
Company Of Heroes

Hope that gives you some idea :)

That's weird because I have no slow downs in COH maxed at this res but I do have in a few of the games above..

I think COH is more to do with me needing more ram as it does alot of HD trashing when first starting, but settles down, so perhaps that doesn`t really count as a slowdown, but it`s been enough to stop me playing till I can get another gig of ram.

I was also going to post about the multi-core issue. I was a bit upset when during gameplay I saw only one core being fully used, while the other three were doing small tasks. :/

I'm expecting (read: hoping) that to give me some hefty performance boosts.

Well considering gametrailers has a video of the whole first level (AKA the Demo) on their site for about 3 months, I think its safe to say that the demo doesn't have the Gold Code.

Game runs nicely all the way through, only slowing at the end with the boat and alien.

I have the same problem with the ending, regardless whether I'm running DX9 or DX10, and this is on medium settings. It even runs sluggish if I moved to that area in the editor

I do have a 8800gts 320mb, how does this scene run on people with 512, 640, 768mb of GPU RAM

thx man:thumbs:

Figured I'll try this out tonight... still downloading. But if I can't play it at 1680x1050 I will scowl mightily. Can't believe some of you actually settling for playing it at 800x600... if it's that bad on any semi-decent computer, it's a POS game.

I play it at 1024 x 768 at medium with no slowdown. But, My PC is pretty good. I didn't even attempt to go 1900x1200, but I might try it sometime.

I'm also playing it at 1024x768 at high settings, no AA, and the frame rate stays between 20 and 30.

However if what you guys are saying is true and in the demo the full power of a multicore CPU isn't used I should see some performance boosts. How much of a boost I have no idea, but I'm guessing the game engine will distribute tasks, like for example AI on one core and the physics on the other.

Just played on a 2.0 ghz a64 3000+, 1gig ram, 9800 pro. I could only play on 800x600 with every setting on low. It was fairly smooth tho, definately playable, which shocked me quite a bit. It just sucks that it won't let me even try to run it on higher settings. I know it'll be a slideshow I just want to see the pretty stuff.

Anyways I was wondering.. does anybody know how to access the editor? Sorry if it's been mentioned before but I'm not reading thru 100 pages lol.

Go to and run the installer in: ...Crysis SP Demo\Sandbox2 Installer\

Then after it's installed, run Editor.exe in: Crysis SP Demo\Bin32\

Mmm.. My case can't carry an 8800... it's so sad. Is the new one smaller?

Well that was actually quite a bit better than what I was expecting. It was playable at 1680x1050 and very high settings, and I used that for the whole demo, but I don't think I'd want to for the whole game... kinda slow (8800 GTX card). I don't think it can begin to compare with the 2 Half-life 2 episodes, but it's not bad. The strength enhancement and all the physically simulated stuff are the best things I think... but the vehicles suck and having to manually pick up guns is stupid. Kinda feels like running around with cheats turned on since you can jump on top of buildings, punch through walls, run straight at a guy unloading at you and hit him dead... but without all that stuff I'd probably hate it. :p The end made me want to play more... maybe it gets more interesting.

Here's a bunch of tweaks that improve fps by a lot, you will lose some eye-candy obviously.

cl_fpbody 0 // disables rendering of nomad's body
cl_hitblur 0 // removes blur when you're hit
cl_hitshake 0 // removes shaking when you're hit
cl_motionblur // removes T-Rex and apache Indians
e_clouds 0 // removes clouds, big fps boost
e_shadows 0 // removes shadows, big fps boost

I still cant believe Crysis runs like crap in vista. whats the problem i thought there would be a performance boost with vista? I run in XP and i get like 80-100fps with 1200X1600 high settings with no aa and no af . This game is great AWSOME! i cant wait play the full version :)

Vista itself still has some kinks that need to be worked out. I've been running the Beta SP1, and so far my performance has been comparable to XP. Once the official SP1 is released, Vista should perform about where it should be.

how do you grab an enemy?

btw, doesn't the power gets used up really quick? you can move around with cloak on for only about 5-10 secs...

I was running through the demo last night with the very high "hack" as it were (editing the .cfg files to replace the high settings values with the very high values) and it looked absolutely gorgeous.

However, 1600 x 1200 with very high on an athlon 64 @ 2.75, 2gb ram and an 8800GTS @ 620/2120 runs like a dog, with the average framerate hovering in mid-teens, as high as low 20's at points and as low as single figures in heavy firefight.

I'm sure a small part of the problem is my now aging single core a64, however, it's still hard not to be mildly traumatised by the arse-kicking it gave my pc !!

T grabs enemies I think

Cloak works better if you crouch and sneak rather than run.

F grabs enemies, T is a melee attack.

And yeah, cloak is for crouch or crawl movement. You cant run around with it, well you can just dont be surprised if youre suddenly spotted moving between rocks or whatever.

Damn... The beta ran pretty decently on everything high at 1024*768 but thanks to lcd displays looks like crap at that resolution. At 1680*1050 (if I remember the resolution correctly) it's unplayable, even at medium... I get like 1-10fps at medium. I got 3700+ amd, 2gb of ram and 7900gt.

The Halo series has almost no freedom compared to this. I think that you:

A: dislike both titles.
B: haven't played one or the other.

Ha, wrong. I bought Far Cry and its just ok, but i actually like Crysis. I'm just cynical because of the hype. Have you seen Yatzhee's review of Bioshock? Theres a part in that review that explains it perfectly.

And i think its easy to compare to the two. Both are linear games with some freedom that are lauded for being open-ended (Far Cry is more open-ended than Halo but only in 2/3 levels). Both games heavily feature "open-ended" encounters that are pretty much just somewhat open environments with rocks and turret placements (Halo) or shacks/camps/very small buildings. Both of these types of encounters allow you go to one way or the other, but in the end you're still shooting guys the same manner as the other game. Shoot, cover, shoot, flank, shoot move onto to next encounter.

Seriously, i never realised how similar FarCry/Crysis is to Halo in terms of gameplay until someone earlier in this thread mentioned it. Only FarCry is shit compared to Halo and Crysis is good.

I'm not saying Halo and FarCry/Crysis are exactly the same but they are easily comparable. There's only 2/3 levels in Far Cry that actually offer significantly alternate routes. Most of the time it boils down to "do i want to go uphill to the right, or take a different path and go uphill to the left, ultimately ending at the same location". Halo does the same kind of thing. "Do i want to go right at this tower and face a bunch of turrets, elites and grunts, or do i want to go left at this tower and faces some turrets and two ghosts, ultimately going straight forward".

Yeah, but Halo is 100% run and gun.

Not entirely true but for the most part, yeah.

you can get the Dx10 effects on windows XP with this patch

dx9 to dx10

to revert back

dx10 to dx9

Password: www.ProjeXt.dl.am

edit: I only recommend this to people with very high end machines.

I've taken notice of the recommendation :p but won't you get a performance boost anyway with any card that's DX 10 capable?

Oh wait, it's not actually a DX 10 emulator for XP it just enables you to activate dx 10 effects?, lol

From what I have read and gathered recently, it appears that the biggest performance hogs are shader quality and texture quality, take them down a bit and everything else can be jacked up.

Also, it's pretty much been confirmed that this demo is running on one core. Pretty impressive still for the ability to have volumetric light fog, and object based motion blur while throwing people through houses and watching the structure collapse. I can't WAIT for the full retail version. It should run much smoother (keeping my fingers crossed.)

Dude it still doesn't work....

I'll take pictures and post em, I don't know why it wouldn't work for you.

Just so I don`t have to press "prnt screen" all the time, is there an actual button for taking screens?

Print screen and fraps doesn't work for me so what I do is type in the command manually in console:

screenshot name.jpg

C:\Users\----------\Documents\My Games\Crysis_SP_DEMO\ScreenShots

What's the command to show FPS ?

Oh and Gunner the commands you gave were slight inaccurate, it's con_restricted=0
and then instead of just (space) it's "=".
But thanks anyway.

possible, I just type con and then press tab twice to cycle through to con_restrict but I was convinced it was a space between the command and value.

Command for fps is:

r_displayinfo 1

If I pre-order it via this download service, I can download it from any country right ?
