Crysis retail turnaround, sells over 1 million units

In yesterday's investor call, Electronic Arts confirmed that sales of Crysis have gone platinum, meaning that over 1 million units had been sold since its launch. That figure marks a drastic improvement over earlier indications that consumer interest in the game was, well, in crisis.

earlier sales figures put it at under 100k units sold ..that's quite a drastic turn around in less than a month ..probably good for the future of crysis , the crytec engine and pc games in general
 
Many gamers might have upgraded during the Christmas hols.

I'm waiting to buy my HD3780 before I get Crysis.
 
i bought 900,000 copies, i love that game
 
It was released mid-November. I doubt many of us bought games for ourselves that close to Christmas.
 
I'm waiting for when my conscious stops yelling at me about spending that much money to upgrade a computer when there are other things I could use with that money that seem much more logical. So I've got another 2 years.

Wasn't the number at 88k just a month back. That s just madness, imagine when it's released for the consoles..

Apparently, Holidays is a much too large of a word to spell out, so saying, 'hols' is so much easier to type...then people just don't understand you, and call you a spaz.
 
UT 3 I heard sold worse than crysis. I'd hardly say it sold decently.

Anyway congrats to crysis I can't believe they did that :O

Now they have no reason to make a console port :P

That's kinda crazy. I find that somewhat hard to believe...but whatever.
 
Crysis is probably selling because it has become a benchmark for systems, and is a perfectly playable game even otherwise.

UT3 turned into the bastard child of UT and UT2004, unfortunately.
 
UT3 was just a bad game. Considering their fan base is made out hardcore gamers you can't get away with a bad game.
 
I can already see people who own the company purchased most of those copies, so that people will think "Maybe it's not so bad, I'm going to go buy it!"

I don't think some people realize the fact that the 87K sales figure for November was for US only. This 1 million figure is overall sales, and since the data is from EA, they probably included the online sales through the EA store (or whatever it's called) as well.

So, considering these things, this jump from 87 000 to 1 000 000 doesn't seem all that crazy.

Anyone know whether those numbers include copies packaged with graphics cards?
 
I have no idea what they did with patch 1.1 or what nvidia did with the drivers but the game plays a shitload better now. I can actually play it at medium albeit on 1024x786 res.

... Soon as I buy a new video card and memory that is........ :D

I hate when my computer is shadowed by others, so I'll stay away from this game for the moment. The way these new games are so much greater in detail to the ones that came out a month ago is disturbing. When Doom 4 comes out (It's been announced) they better have a new engine...

As much as I hate getting in the middle of silly online spelling arguments, I just want to point out that "many gamers were bought Crysis" is indeed correct grammar. As in, "Many gamers had the game purchased for them." A little awkward maybe, but correct none the less

Crytek did what they did. They created such an epic hype over the game. The moment it hits the PS3 and XBOX360, they'll be raking in so much money, they'll cry with joy..
