is it me or is it that CS source looks a bit takier than some of the footage ive seen of hl2
hell im not complainin but some of the texture on CS source are really DX7 looking :afro:

It's the same engine, it's just some of the materials (i.e. maps, textures etc.) don't look as good.

Does it look a bit what? Takier? What's that word supposed to mean?

Well CS is online..that could be one issue...but I would rather wait until the actual CD is released. By then they should have most of the issues resolved.

I think he meant to say "tacky".
But you have to realize that CS:S won't look as good as HL2 because it is a multiplayer game.

HL2 will look way better because its Hl2..same engine different graphics even tho they are similar

Uh...I would assume a big no on that. While increased detail does tax bandwidth more, I seriously doubt Valve would have only made it feasible connection-wise to play mods w/ Half-Life 2 multi at half the detail of the regular game. Granted Doom 3 multi is lagged to hell because of this very thing. Yet knowing their emphasis on the mod community I'm sure Valve would have tested netcode enough (god I hope) so that detail levels at Half-Life 2 quality can be implemented without a major taxation on bandwidth.

if you noticed, HL2's minimum requirements are higher than CS:S.... this must mean HL2 uses more of source's capabilities than CS:S does....

I know this has probably already been debated to hell...but is the reason that CS:S's graphics aren't on par with Half-Life 2's because it just wasn't feasible for their development schedule to take the time needed to make it look and run that good? If anyone could clear this up I'd be most appreciative. Thanks in advance.

Question: how can textures look "DX7"
Answer: they've got big stamps on them saying "Excuse me, but I'm Texture DX7, pleased to meet you, my liege". They then ask you to dinner, but, as you arrive, they slam the door in your face and call the police. True story.

Maybe because CS:S was nothing more than a cheap port just to get more HL2 sales. I am sure there were quite a few CS fans that didnt really have any interest in HL2 but because of CS:S they then did.

I dont think any other source port is getting the re model and re map treatment like CS which is a shame. Some one could make a good quality map though for DoD but it will look pretty wierd having a nice looking map with low quality models.

Looks like we're gonna have to wait for Insurgency or Sven Co-op for Half-Life 2 graphics-quality multi.

Valve watered down cs:s - yes it doesn't look any better than UT2004. But on the bright side, the frames are good and fun to play.

That is the one perk I am quite happy with---good performance. Which is a helluva lot more than I can say for the piss poor excuse of a multi component that's present with Doom 3. Let's all visit a parallel world in which Valve churned out only a handful of maps in boxy dm format with horrible performance.

Off topic:

Don't talk about the Doom 3 multi - I mean it's utter crap. "Dynamic shadows" my ass - hell the shadows in cs:s come in more handy in killing people than in D3 MP.

I'm waiting for a proper D3 mp mod, and there still isn't one good enough.

IMO i think cs: source looks WAY better then ut2k4..cause ut2k4 graphics are like glass or plstic people cs source models look like they are people
