I'm pretty sure there isn't a tutorial for this as I've searched extensivly.

I'm trying to make a dangling live electrical cable that hangs from a point and bounces around sparking, as seen in D1_canals_05. I'm pretty sure I've figured out the basics. They seem to have an invisible physbox attached to the end of the rope and an env_explosion to jolt the physbox, obviously the end of the rope and the env_explosion are parented to the physbox.

Still, I haven't been able to recreate it as realisticly as they have, I must be missing something, perhaps the correct magnitue and also the angle and distance of the env_explosion in relation to the physbox. Any help would be great. Thanx, Leo

Im not to sure how to do that. But you could always decompile the map to see how they did it.

Well that was my first idea but it seems decompiling is very taboo, of course I wouldn't be copying or stealing anything, any ideas on a good decompiler?

nah, decompiling for something like that is the best way to go. You're not stealing anything and it's always good to be able to see how the pros do it. ;)

I agree. Decompiling is fine for something like this, you're not stealing, just trying to learn. Google for VMEX.

I'm installing everything now, should be able to see it in a few mins, thanks for the help guys, hopefully I can make sense of Valves work.

Well I isolated all the relevant parts and it's actually exactly as I imagined, all I was missing was the correct env_explosion angles and magnitudes, and also some physics constraints to stop the wire flying around like crazy. Thanks for the advice!
