Last week, we regaled you with the tale of DOA: Dead or Alive's abysmal opening weekend, in which the film was estimated to have earned just $232,000. The actual total moved slightly north to $260,713, but the final per-screen total of $516 can hardly be considered impressive.

Believe it or not, it gets much worse the second time around. BoxOfficeMojo is reporting that the film brought in just $21,029 in its second weekend of release, representing a nearly 92% decrease since last weekend -- easily the worst among the top 100 films (it was #54). Only 98 theaters gave it a second chance, amounting to a per-screen average of $214.

In its first 10 days of release, DOA: Dead or Alive has brought in a grand total of $468,230. With international grosses reported at $6.16 million, the $21 million film seems likely to take a significant loss, unless robust DVD sales can make up the difference. As noted last week, DOA: Dead or Alive is already slated for a September 4th DVD release in North America.

ouch, let that be a lesson to hollywood who see video games as a movie tie in cash cow

A 15 million dollar loss isn't that big of a deal. I bet the producers half expected it, which is why it's budget is so small in the first place.

Take note Mr.Boll.

Take note Mr.Boll.

Unfortunately, Boll has the luxury of German tax loopholes. Or at least he did. I never heard of the problem being rectified.

Any way, no surprises here. Oh, and Holly Vallance still doesn't have a career.

I didn't even know this was a movie. Maybe alittle advertising would help.

lol i remember seeing it advertised like once, i knew it would do poorly.

When did they release this?

Haven't heard about it since the trailer.

for a second i thought this was about that 80's zombie movie Dead Alive by Peter Jackson, and was extremely confused

Has anyone here actually seen it to compare to other fighting games turned action movies?? I can't imagine its much worse than Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. :D

This may show them, but I doubt it'll stop them. I mean, they're already going ahead with that new Street Fighter movie in which Chun-Li is played by Jessica Biel. (What the Christ)

Blasphemer, Mortal Kombat was one of the most awesome video game to movie translations EVERRRRRRRRR. Street Fighter...well, Bison dollars and "Quick! Change the channel!" made up for it. Actually all of Raul Julia made up for it.

"Something wrong, Colonel? You come here prepared to fight a madman, and instead you found...A GOD?!"

Jessica Biel as Chun-Li. Sweet shaven Jesus...

Also, Mortal Kombat was indeed the shit. Any movie that gets Scorpion and Sub-Zero - the two most badass ninjas of all time - in the same room together is doing something right.

I cried.

Just kidding

Mortaaaaalllllllll koommmmbaaaaatttttt!

Really looking forward to Far Cry

what? Jessica Biel playing the role of an asian woman? white actors playing non white roles? that's unheard of

oh look it's the Duke ..good ole racist Wayne playing someone "inferior" to him

hollywood is full of petty ignorant people scared shitless they'll offend middle america so they add an unwanted veneer of political correctness in the most idiotic or mundane situations.

....btw Biel is hot but I'd much rather an asian actor ...preferably a hot one

For the record, its pretty likely that John Wayne eventually died, along with much of the crew, from radiation sustained while shooting that movie Stern. :D

Yeah, movie sets and nuclear test sites don't mix. Hows that for Karma? (As well as being a million billion years ago.)

Most people blamed it on the advertising.

I'll never forget how mind-blowing it was when I learned Ben Jahvri from Short Circuit was played by Fisher Stevens.

I'm not mad at it or anything, I don't even think there's anything wrong with it (he did an awesome job), but it was just like, "Whoa, I thought he was really an Indian actor."

I don't know what it is, maybe it's "star" power, maybe it's good ol' fashioned racism, but picking Biel, someone obviously unsuited to the role ethnically, just grates on me. You know that unlike these examples we've been showing, it's unlikely they're going to put makeup on Biel to make her look Asian, because that'd be even more politically incorrect. So you're going to get a caucasian woman onscreen for 2 hours being called Chun Li.
