Everyone varies from having better defences against disease, being tall/short, thin/fat. Variation isn't always mutation. And some mutations can be detrimental to the body, some can help e.g. sickle cell anaemia provides immunity to malaria. But in being a homosexual, it has no detrimental effect on the body (as long as you are safe), only to society, which is what you are thinking...which is bullshit. We live in a world where homosexuality is not illegal, and is acceptable. What are you getting at?

The detriment from homosexuality that could be seen as a defect is that homosexuals won't be procreating and forwarding the species. That is why someone may say it's a defect.

Seems like a good source of population control to me. The U.S. is expected to be at 420 million by 2050 (140 million more than we have now). While most of Europe is getting smaller.

If that were true it would have evolved itself out of existence from the very beginning. More likely it is some form of recessive gene that has some benefits society on a whole.

Well for one, we don't exactly need more people right now. Having 5% of the population not reproducing might be a good thing. It also frees up members of society for other tasks. People who don't have a familly to take care of can devote themselves to other things like science, careers. Spartan soldiers where mostly homosexual. Alexander the Great was gay. Maybe if he kids he wouldn't have been able to go about conquering the known world. Homosexuality has been around for thousands of years, it's not likely that it's some recent result of bad parenting.
 
Wouldn't the ancients technically be bisexual since they had sex with their wives for reproduction?

Actually he's correct there. :O

The wide majority of bi people are biologically straight. They are simply capable of enjoying same-sex too, without hang-ups.
