Deathmatch to Singleplayer Mapping Competition Launches

Phillip of planetphillip.com, has launched his latest project called DM2SP, whereby makers of HL2 Deathmatch maps are asked to convert their map into short single player campaigns. The prize fund varies, but the top value up for grabs could be up to $140 for the winning entry. The competition is now open for entries and will close at 11:59pm GMT 31st July 2009.[br]

[br]Winners will be announced on 16th August 2009, and will be available for download to play these short campaigns. Full details including the exact prize structure, rules and judges can be found on the DM2SP website.

Pretty interesting idea to be honest. I wonder if it'll bring out anything as good as Metastasis or the like, where amazing levels are set across just one map.

Firstly, thanks Hectic Glenn for posting the news so quickly.

Secondly, just to clarify, currently the TOTAL prize fund is $140, but I am trying to raise more.


I'm certainly not expecting anything of Metastasis standard but I am sure we could get some pretty cool entries.

Did some research for my self...

MINERVA is a trilogy. Metastasis is finished, but the second and third chapters (the second is called Out of Time and the name of the third escapes me at the moment but is possibly Pegasus?) are still in development, just on hiatus because of his current employment by Valve. The second episode is due to be set in a snowy city, City 44, complete with roaming Hunters.

I'm looking forward to playing these mini-campaigns. Sometimes it's quite nice to play a story story like if you feel playing playing some HL2-esque but isn't sometime you've played 10 times already. If someone gets the right formula too...I can imagine a single map growing to much larger projects.

We've got awesome mappers on the forums here who could put in a worthy entry for sure.
