I need help, i recently took out my P4 because I am getting a new motherboard and case, but i do not understand how to get the stock heatsink off of the processor. I have already bent some pins trying to put it back in my dell aswell, but I carefully put them back. and help at all would be great as I have searched alll over the net for about 5 hours.

Thx in advance...

I think there is a clamp on the heatsink, or it might be bolted to the mobo.

no clamp, the metal heatsink is either thermal bonded or some kinda stuff. no clamps though.

and i already have the processor off, just need to get the damn metal heatsink off.

How...did you get the cpu out.....with the heatsink still on...?:dozey:

Thats what i was just thinking. And being that its prebuilt, and a dell no less, its probably bonded.

lol, the ZIF lever was down when i pulled it out...so to say the least i accidently yanked it out, but luckily the pins are all intact and straight.

EDIT: When I was reading the documentation on how to remove the heatsink the proper way (which I did not do) it mentioned somthing about thermal tape or somthing rather\

EDIT2: The reason I wanted to take the processor out in the first place is because I am migrating my Parts from a Dell to a new Mobo and Case. And all i need to do is get the heatsink off so I can install a new one on my P4 2.0GHz 400MHz FSB socket 478.
(im going to be up to 5 edits by the end the nights up...lol)

lol got it. weee thanks for all your help (the people that helped anyway.) I eneded up calling dell tech after emailing them. :bounce:

dont email dell, you just get a bot responding to you, call them and bug them in person :cheese:

Dont bash Dell, the HSF is easy to get off. Your doing something wrong, the cpu on my dell came off just fine when i put it on a new motherboard.

it dont matter any more i got it done deal

and i wasnt bashing dell, their tech support is very helpful.
