Depressed mother cooked baby on stove

LONDON (Reuters) - A depressed mother who cooked her three-week-old baby son on a stove needs treatment not jail, a judge decided on Wednesday after she pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

Cheryl Green, 40, who had a long history of mental illness, admitted she had burnt baby Mickle to death after becoming confused and claiming she had heard voices telling her to do it.

I didn't read the article and have no desire to know the full details.
Pain and suffering of a three week old child is enough for me.
I hear things in my head from time to time, it’s called my conscious and stops me from doing such dreadful acts.

That being said, holy goddamn shit that's effed up and crazy. She should be locked away SOMEWHERE for the rest of her life.

But my question is, why the hell was she allowed to have a kid in the first place?

Despite suffering 90 percent burns to his body, doctors and paramedics managed to keep the boy alive for nine hours. The incident was so horrific that paramedics had to be given counselling for the emotional trauma they suffered.

Yeah seriously, I doubt any of you have any idea what schizophrenia does to someone. It is a tragic thing and I hate to see a baby die like that, but there's no reason to call her a stupid bitch. She shouldn't have been allowed to have a child in the first place.

In my opinion - recently I've been hearing about alot of Manslaughter cases, and I always thought about them that no matter what they should atleast serve a life sentence. I mean, a few weeks ago a 9 year old stabbed her playmate, and they say she's going to go to juvy for 10 years max...WTF? That's not a punishment, that's being nice. Same idea in this case. Except I've always followed "the eye for an eye and a nose for a nose" theory, so I think the mother should not be behind bars but executed. I guess law enforcement is just too nice these days.

If the crime was commited by a one month old baby (let's assume it had the capability to do so) would you execute/imprison-for-life the baby? If the mother cooked her child obviously her lack of sanity obviously means she is no more responsible for her own actions than the one month old baby.

Yeah exactly, maybe not life though..i'd say just put her in one of those mental assylums (pff I can't spell) where she can't leave until she is completely sane then you keep a close eye on her for the next few years then it's ok. She isn't a criminal.

Sure there is, this sort of thing triggers anger in most people, and shes the easiet person to blame for it. Though she wasent in control, because shes metally ill, she still did the deed. But yeah, isent gonna help... other than people will let off some steam.
