Oh man, good choices, I've just been getting into Precambrian lately, myself.

Will be really disappointing when you find out albums don't play themselves, in the middle of a desert island.

wavering radiant and in the absence of truth are disappointing entries gentlemen come on now. surely the best desert island disc, in the middle of the ocean, is none other than oceanic? well, it's mine anyway, irregardless of place.

gonna need to think on this one.

also, can someone tell me the appeal in the ocean? i keep trying to get into them because people say aeolian is inspired by ISIS celestial/oceanic era but i don't hear it, just nothing too inspiring or interesting, same for the latest release, heliocentric.

it has nate newton involved which is a plus and some other gents but i just don't get them.

Haha, I still find it hilarious that the only 3 Isis mega-fans on this board (that I'm aware of) have such divisive opinions over which album is their zenith. Just goes to show how far-reaching and personal their music is (was :().

Good choices anyway (can't really comment on the electronic side of things but besides that :p). Thirteenth Step was pretty high on my list, same with Superunknown. Probably would have made the cut if this were an "all time fav" list, but I decided to go with my current tastes instead of listing a bunch of stuff I'd already overplayed the crap out of.

Oh, By The Way, I'm gonna ****ing cheat and put box sets of everything unless you put some kind of clause, bitch.
Meh, I know better than to try and enforce 'rules' for this kind of thing. I actually had mostly double albums in my list at first, but I decided to go for quality over quantity. Maybe not what I'd actually go for in this scenario, but it's hypothetical so w/e.

also, can someone tell me the appeal in the ocean? i keep trying to get into them because people say aeolian is inspired by ISIS celestial/oceanic era but i don't hear it, just nothing too inspiring or interesting, same for the latest release, heliocentric.

Edit: Oh by the way, what's that last album on your list? I thought it might be Red Sparowes but it doesn't match any album art I can find. Been meaning to get into them anyway... and Old Man Gloom for that matter.

The Ocean are kind of a weird one. They used to be, like, an 8-piece comprised of various guitarists, keyboardists, percussionists, etc, but since Heliocentric I think they might have cut down a bit since their wiki lists only 6 main members. In short, their albums vary pretty wildly between progressive, post-metal and a straighter, more hardcore sound, although they share some common elements. Aeolian is 100% hardcore more or less, Fluxion is more progressive, and Precambrian melds these styles into one epic double-disc monster (the second disc being very post-metal, and sharing the most in common with Isis). Personally I think Precambrian is their only great album, but I still give Fluxion a spin once in a while. Aeolian on the other hand is honestly pretty hard to sit through for me since it's so unrelenting.

Heliocentric is a completely different beast. They went through a bit of a lineup change prior to recording this, replacing the lead vocalist and drummer and possibly culling a couple members (I can't hear any extra percussion on there, and the electronics don't really stand out as much). The album is a lot more progressive with tinges of their post-metal/sludge aesthetic, but I find it to be a bit simplistic compared to their older material. A lot of the complexity present on Precambrian has been stripped away in favour of a cleaner, more band-oriented sound, which to me kills a part of what made them so unique. It doesn't help that the concept is so overdone: "christianity is dumb lol." The song Ptolemy was Wrong just makes me barf a little in my mouth every time it comes on...

Anyway, highly recommend you check out Precambrian (be aware the first disc is all hardcore stuff like Aeolian, although it's still great and thankfully much shorter), and if you're into that give Fluxion a go. Here's one of the more post-whatever tracks from Precam to give you an idea (god I love the riff from 2:30 onwards) -

The White Album
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band

To be honest I was actually stuck between Oceanic and Wavering Radiant, and flipped a coin.

Close to the Edge by Yes and Dark Side of the Moon

all I need, baby

Edit: Scrap this, I would just want 5 mixes of ambient music with occasional singing. There would be no way I could listen to 5 albums of people singing over and over and over again.
I'm not following the rules. Boo.

it's born into trouble as the sparks fly upwards by a silver mt. zion. if you're going to try red sparowes, i heartily recommend at the soundless dawn as their quintessential release and as for old man gloom, christmas or the record i posted, seminar iii: zozobra which is one long 27 doom/ambient hardcore track which is what they're all about.

mmkay, thanks. i'll check out precambrian later tonight, then if i like it maybe give the others a bit of time. cheers.

ka: i've heard fostercare and listened quite a bit to the four tet split, that was great. not heard the other new ones, though.

To Shift:
I can barely even listen to Muse for 3 days at a time. Being stuck with them forever would literally drive me insane :p.

This one is for sure:

Toss-up between F#A#infinity and Skinny Fists, but I'll go with Lift Your Skinny Fists... because it has more music on it. yes.

I'm not sure if I'd want any Sigur Ros at all, but it would probably be between Agaetis Byrjun and the two sausages album. Eh.

STOP HOTLINKING WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE. :frown:

(But yeah I'm pretty sure this kind of thing has been done here before. Would be interesting to dig it up and see how our tastes have changed.)

Yeah I just did a bit of digging. Saw a "3 favorite albums" thread which is essentially the same thing. I switched F#A#infinity for Lift Your Skinny Fists and Agaetis Byrjun for () but otherwise, it was the same haha.

I don't think I have anything too embarrassing until '04. By '05, I'd gone over to post-rock and I've just been sitting there ever since then. I guess I've added in some modern/neo- classical too.

So hard to choose, but I'm also not going for a large variety. Although if you gave me 6 weeks to chose I'd probably come up with a better rounded group of artists

Pink floyd would be nice but since its albums and not discographies this island is going to suck!

I thought aMotion was nothing but remixes?

Mostly of the same song?

A Fine Frenzy - Bomb in a Birdcage
Regina Spektor - Far
Elliott Smith - Either Or
Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning
Our Lady Peace - Happiness is not a Fish that you can Catch

Interesting. I haven't seen anybody else on the forum who's into OLP aside from Stigmata.

Also:

Five? Don't know. Maybe add Hail to the Thief. Maybe Melody A.M. Do 'should have been albums' count? Then add Autechre's Glasgow 2005 live set. I'm indecisive because as albums go, nothing's as strong as Chiastic and Life... in terms of overall cohesion and individual track strength.

Well, I was probably just procrastinating before. I don't feel that picking a box set is fair and I can't even pretend it counts as "an album" when it contains multiple albums.

Therefore, first choice, easy choice. Maybe the most entertaining album I've ever heard.

I've been listening to it for 30 years and it hasn't gotten tiresome at all. That's probably a good indicator that I wouldn't tire of it on a desert island.

I'll have to get back to you on the rest.

the pendant in me is screaming out to tell you that that is the wall movie poster :p

i have it on my wall

I think you mean pedant, not pendant, but maybe I'm just being a pedant.

Yeah, I have the movie on VHS; it's the artwork from the box.

The Wall has the worst artwork of all their albums, so I used the movie artwork instead.

The crappiness of The Wall's cover art goes far beyond simply being the worst of Pink Floyd's albums. The movie poster is indeed fantastic and makes up for it.

Also I lol'd far more than I should have at both your posts.

no, i mean pendant. pedant sounds too like being ''i'm just being a pedo'' - i'm happy to be wrong instead of sounding even more wrong in my head :p

i don't see what's wrong with the wall's artwork. i can't think of what else it could of been, it's a pretty self-explanatory illustration, as ambiguous and left to the imagination of what lies behind it as it could be.

2nd choice - whichever album compilation from CCR that has the most songs on it. On wikipedia, it's this one:
