Does anyone know of a good article showing the full lineup of all the 6800 variations? I am looking for comparison info on bandwidths / pipelines / clockspeeds etc.. The last time I counted there were already 3 variations.
I just dont want to buy the wrong one or not spend enough to get what I need. Even Nvidia is not telling me what I want on there own site!

There are 3 types of variation afaik...there are more released by different companies E.G check http://www.gainward.de/new/main.html ...they have alot of different ones and if you search around their site it has the clock speeds and everything you need to know, but bare in mind most gainward cards come overclocked with warranty hence why they cost more usually.

Anyway the 3 types are the 6800 - 6800GT - 6800ULTRA, the 6800 is 12 pipelines, the GT and ULTRA are 16, the ULTRA also uses 2 slots on the board and requires 2 molex connectors. The GT is the best buy for nvidia id say..it is nicely priced, is fast as fook and is 16 pipelines standard.

6800 - 12 Pixel Pipelines, Core Frequency = 325 MHz, Memory Frequency = 700 MHz, uses 128 MB of DDR 1 memory.

6800 GT - 16 Pixel Pipeliness, Core Frequency = 350 MHz, Memory Frequency = 1 GHz, uses 256 MB of GDDR 3 memory

6800 Ultra - 16 Pixel Pipelines, Core Frequency = 400 MHz, Memory Frequency = 1.1 GHz, uses 256 MB of GDDR 3 memory, requires 2 molex power connectors

I had to grab this info from 3 different anandtech articles

the clock frequencies on these new cards throw me a curve ball everytime I look at them compared to my 5900 which i flashed to a 5950u at 490/975.

I have to tell myself that core/memory speeds mean very little compared to the other parts of the cards that are improved as well. Am I thinking right?

well, they mean some, but the other changes mean more :p

i look at my 9600pro... oced to 510/610

Frequencies can only really be compared between models from the same core or chip.
Example of what not to compare:
2.8GHz celeron vs 2.8GHz P4
2.4GHz Athlon vs 2.4GHz P4
And even 2GHz Duron vs 2GHz Celeron

Hey, does anyone one know if this next-gen Pixel Shader 3.0 will even ever be utilized before the 6800 is completely out of date? Won't U3 engine games require more Video Card ram than 256?

Personally I think I'll wait this one out...probably even pick up a used 9800Pro off of ebay once they plummet, and get a 6800 in a year or so. When its uses become more clear to me.

Plus, what the hell does the Ultra use to slots for? Just power? Or does it use a PCI slot to send data too?

you can't have card in both AGP and PCI slot ;)

Games like Far Cry and Stalker will use SM 3.0. However, this is more of a tacked on feature rather than something that is fully integrated. With SM 3.0, you will get some performance improvements over SM 2.0 as long as the developer is careful with its dynamic branching. Crytek has even said that it decided not to use dynamic branching in its upcoming SM 3.0 patch because of performance problems. It remains to be seen if this is a problem with Crytek or a potential pitfall of SM 3.0. However, SM 3.0 should be good for performance improvements over SM 2.0.

Honestly, I expect the Unreal 3 engine to be one of the first engines to fully utilize DX 9. Even a game like Doom 3 doesn't utilize all of the technologies found DX 9. In fact, Doom 3 primarily uses technologys that are the equivalent from DX 7 and DX 8 codepaths (note that the Doom 3 engine uses OpenGL). Even HL2 only uses a small part of the features that DX 9 is capable of. DX 9 is very powerful and very performance intensive.

The 6800 Ultra uses 2 slots to properly cool it. However, Asus has come out with a 1 slot 6800 Ultra. However it is louder and runs hotter than a typical 6800 Ultra.

Why you don't like them :D

The X800XT is a PCI Express only card. It is supposed to be a lower clocked X800XT PE but still has 16 pixel pipelines.

The X800XT PE is a PCI Express and AGP card.

The X800XT PE is the top of the line 500$ ATI card. I bet the extra long name confuses you. hehe
It competes with Nvidia's top of the line 500$ card, the 6800 Ultra.

Quite a few places list the card as a X800 XT but in the details it may say it's a X800XT PE. I know Gateway listed the card like that.

ok so i cant buy the x800xt = pci card because i want a agp card. so i have to buy the best ati = x800xt pe right, so i should look for that? im not being sarcastic, so the best ati for agp is the x800xt pe?

ya man, i loved the toher 2 before it. what was it about something accountant, i said put it as a secratary remember. mant hese jokes are ****ing hilarious "looking for a good stone" OMFG!!!!! i just wanna punch u because its sof unny.
