Hi

I made a funmap for HL2 Teamdeathmatch. it's nearly a mod
It's a kind of soccer, played with 2 teams.
the teams have to score 10 goals to win a round.
your only weapon is the physgun combined with the steelball

only thing i could mention: make the ball a little lighter.. but i don't know, how it would turn out with other players (only tried it alone).

You could create a generic template VMF file with the entities set up correctly and let other people make manipulator sports maps that work like this one but with all kinds of different themes... then, gather them all into a map pack.

the only weapon is the physgun and you can kill enemies with it + the ball.
so don't get in the way of that heavy ball unless you shoot it back or at least change its flying curve with your physgun.

the ball was lighter once but i thought it would be to easy to score, but i was only able to test it 1on1 on lan. i'll change it if its to difficult

This would be possible. but i think first this has to be a perfect version or maybe a HL2 modification would be a better solution,
because not everything is possible with the leveleditor.
i don't even know how many people like to play such maps or such a mod.
now it's only a small funmap based on the HL2 physics that maybe needs some tweaks to get real fun
time will tell :)
 
It's a lot like the UT2004 mod Deathball. I loved that mod and I hope to like this map. From I see, I say good work! :D
 
Questions:

I'm greatly interested in using entities to make custom gametypes. Which entities did you use? The one's I've seen that seem appropriate seem broekn holdovers from HL1, but I haven't tested them. Is the text displayed just a text message? How do you award points to a team? Are you just using a math_counter? What I mean is, does the map actuallly award teams points, or does it just display a victory message after the counter reaches 10? (Guess I should check it out).

Also, how do you limit the weapons which a player spawns with?


BTW, You mention you couldn't implement certain rules that you wanted you wanted to. What were these exactly? Also, if you don't mind, could you post the .vmf?

the mainproblem is that the scoreboard in my map and the scoreboard of hl2dm are seperated. maybe its possible to link those a bit, but i think the better way would be a modification.
in a mod you could even implement goalkeepers who could pick up the ball for a few seconds etc.
my scoreboard consists of func_tracktrains and confusing triggers. here's a screen to give you an idea how it works:

i think there could be easier solutions.
the gravgun only thing is a combination of a trigger_weapon_strip and a game_player_equip entity.
the text messages are just game_text entities
 
I played this game a bit last night, and i would like to give a quick review if you don't mind.
Aside from the server being a bit laggy, the game was a hoot! You really have to be carful about standing in front of the ball because you might get knocked out, but that always makes a good laugh. One of my favorite things about the design of the map is the use of rams that push players out of the spawn or shoots the ball out of the safty zone. The obstructions on the floor like the spinning X's (that will hurt and kill you if you run into them) and the rams that shoot the ball in the air if it gets close realy make some intersting gameplay. The safety corners give you some options for defence and if a goalie was able to grab the ball like you said it would be even more of a challenge. Its definetly not easy to score already, but in between goals there is plenty of close calls and people dying left and right to keep you interested.
The flow of the game never stops because after you score or knock the ball into the safety corners you have to get into possition quickly to intercept the ball once it comes back into play.
One thing that is not in the game but was so funny when I played was that the admin used a cheat to spawn an ant lion guard that went on a ramage, yet people were still going after the ball trying to score.

I definetly need to try this again on a better server, and I suggest y'all come and play it at least once. I don't want to give it a numeric rating, but as you can see... i liked it. Keep it up MrMof!

Here is now the new version 3:

-fixed player spawn bugs
-fixed corner catapult bug
-fixed other small bugs
-some new textures + skytexture
-big performance boost (nearly 100% more FPS on my machine)
-now 10 player start slots
-added explosioneffect when scoring a goal
-other small changes

I changed nothing on the weight of the ball because im satisfied with the current settings and gameplay.

lol at the antlion...maybe when a team is down by a certain # of points (like say, 4) it could say something like "Underdog!!!!" loudly like the UT announcer, then a cage on the side of the map would release an ant lion that would have it's "alliances" set towards the loosing team and attack the winning team, resulting in a slighty upper-hand for the people getting owned.
 
Awesome map, I just played it for about an hour! It's always funny when people get killed by the ball, I laugh every time.
