DNF is going to be better than HL2

Actually, they ARE still on the unreal 1 engine. I used to go alot to the DNF forums and the developers are still answering some questions now and then.

But realize, HL1 run under the (at that moment) already outdated Q1 engine. Afcourse Valve heavily modified it, but so is 3Drealms with the Unreal 1 engine.

Anywayz, i'm still looking forward to the game, i'm just not that sure anymore that it will totally own every other game out there (as i used to believe). Not with HL2 comming out soon.. :E

I think DNF could be a lot more fun then Doom3. I still go with gameplay rather then graphics. Though HL2 has both :naughty: :naughty:

thats ritght, hl2 got both. but i dont think that DNF will be a big hit, its way to much hyped...to long time to make...(couldnt find a better word for it)

Who knows?
By the time it comes out it could be a blast of fresh air or another Daikatana.

I dunno about hyped..
Its been several years since they released any new media. Given, they where way to early with the screens and the vid, but that was a long time ago. No one knows how it will look or play until they release some new hard info.

I used to go to those forums every day heheh. But after 2 years you get bored though. HL2 got my full attention now, but I didn't lost my anticipation for DNF though.

I heard that they changed a few times actually

Anyone have a link to the latest DNF footage? I remember seeing it and getting excited about it cuz it looked good.

There's a XXX mod for HL2 already in production, guys. It's been in the design stages for about 2-3 weeks now. Should be a site coming up soon, maybe a recruitment post for team members in the General Editing forum.

The working title for the mod is HL: Sex in the C17Y. I'm the head administrator of the mod, which means basically I oversee all areas of the project (mapping, modeling, coding, sound, etc.).

Singleplayer or multiplayer ?

lol, thats sweet, cool gfx for its time..

If you guys really want to annoy 3D Realm's, quit talking about the release date and sign onto their forum and say how much better Judge Dredd is than Duke Nukem, Trust me, this lights a fire under their ass. :)

Dude, DNF just has VIRTUAL strippers(real ones are the best!), if you want a boner that badly, get Tomb Raider or something...porn ruins games for me...:flame:

come again... I may be greater than the world but that doesn't mean i know how DNF can stand for 'three in the trash and an unfinished restart'.... seems like a very odd name for a game.

half-life 1 ran on a modified quake 2 engine actually, I think there was a post about it running on a quake 1 engine.

Course the quake 2 engine is just a modified quake 1 engine =p

Diakatana does come to mind when i think of DNF :(

^^
Valve licenced the Quake1 engine for HL1 and modified that. By the time HL1 was done Quake2 was finished yes, but HL1 still originated from the Quake1 engine. (can't find the interview with Gabe where he said this, i'll keep looking)

Edit: found it :E goto

http://www.gamespot.com/features/halflife_final/part22.html for the artikel (actually not an interview). Its a good read while you there anyway :E

i have a girlfriend but whats wrong with lookin at naked women??
Nothin wrong with a little puss to look at.

I wonder what would happen if someone started making a full on hardcore porn mod. Would valve have the right to shut it down?

doubt it, it would probably make HL2 sell better, theyd take it retail lol

Has anyone realized that DNF also means "Did not finish" in auto racing terminology :D

And no, Sex In The C17Y is not a joke.. I'm public relations for it and it was originally my idea.. BTW glad to be here with you all in these forums.. this be my first post.

Hello Xerond, Welcome! but please dont post on dying threads, ;)

DNF let's see the last time they had any info on that game they were using old ut technology, who knows if it's still in development, if it is there is no news, screenshots or any sign that it exists, so you can't really think it will be good when it comes out because there is no info. just a title and horrible looking screenshots.
so don't say stuff like OMG DNF PwNNZ EV3RytHING not until we see new material.

There actually has been some Duke Forever news in the past few weeks. They recently revealed that at the beginning of 2002, they ripped and replaced the Unreal renderer. They are careful not to hype anymore, so they haven't said it blows the old stuff away, but they did remove the 2001 video because it "isn't representative" of the current state of the game. Since replacing the renderer is what was done for Thief III (and Deus Ex 2, I think), the game could theoretically look pretty good right now, and it could be competitive with other current games. It will, for example, make use of DX9 features.

Look, here's where I'm at: I know showing support for DNF is an invitation to a good flaming on most boards (this thread has been pretty free of acrimony, so I'm hopeful), but I think the game still has a lot of potential. I don't know if it'll live up to it, but the potential is there. Duke in Vegas? That's a natural. The '98 video looked great, but there was some concern when they switched engines. Then, the '01 video blew the earlier one away. I'm hoping the finished game will do the same to that video. Point is, it's looked nice every time we've seen it. They've just had some major problems getting it to all come together for some reason. George Broussard even admits that now and claims to feel they are finally on the right track for the first time since the project started. I hope he's right.

It would be easy to make a comparison between the time it has taken Valve to make HL2 and the time 3D Realms has taken with Duke, but I realize that's just not accurate. As far as I know, Valve knew what they wanted from the beginning and got their engine where they wanted it right off the bat. They've spent their time building the tools, the engine, adding content, etc. Looking in from the outside, Duke has had some major problems that have caused them to have to start over a few times. At this point, I'm kind of glad they did the last major change, as it should make the game look that much better.

And please take this message in its proper light. I'm a Duke fan and an HL fan. I certainly didn't come here to make some ludicrous "Duke will be better than HL2!" statement. Frankly, I don't know how Duke will be. I hope it's close to as good as HL2, but HL2 is about the best looking game I've ever seen at this point. I'd love to have two great gaming experiences instead of just one.

Edit: The part about "Duke will be better than HL2!" being ludicrous was not a knock at the guy who started the thread. I forgot that was the title until I looked up just now. :E

I mostly agree with what you said, however you have to keep in mind that DNF will definatelly not come out for AT LEAST another year. By that time, whichever engine they are using will be obsolete.
