All I can say to you Creative users is, GET A LIFE!!

Creative SUCKS! I had a mobo on my old PC that didn't communicate very well with Creative cards in particular, thus I ended up with stuttering sounds ALL THE TIME! When I inadvertantly trashed my mobo by using a program called "KillCMOS", I took the chance of getting a new nForce2 mobo, with inbuilt sound.

Ever since then, my problems have gone away entirely.

OH, but don't stop me there! It seems the Creative Curse lends itself to all manner of hardware, too!

I bought a Creative Webcam back early last year, and it performed crappily on my old PC, and not only that, but it messed up my IDE channel drivers, which manifested itself mostly when I tried to play DVDs on my PC - the performance was choppy beyond belief. As soon as I got rid of the webcam and drivers and forced Windows to reinstall the drivers I was fine again.

I thought the problem had gone for good until I bought WinDVD earlier this year - then again my DVD playback was choppy.

Why? Cos the bloody software installed CREATIVE AUDIGY drivers when I didn't tell it to!!

All I can say is, DON'T TRUST CREATIVE! THEIR DRIVERS SUCK, THEIR HARDWARE SUCKS, AND YOU'RE BETTER OFF WITH THE INBUILT SOUND ON YOUR NFORCE2 MOBO!

Heed my words.

Uh, I've had my Audigy Gamer for at least 2 years I think, and it's been nice for my needs. It hasn't screwed up once, and I love it.

This was unnecessary.

Their soundcard hardware is decent. Its just their drivers that are utterly terrible.

Like you I also use onboard sound now and it has been working perfectly for me.

I dont have Creative right now, but I can still say, without question, that your an immature idiot.

BTW: Try posting in the correct forum next time.

"GET A LIFE!!"
hehehe. Pratice what you preach, guy.

I apologise for that unnecessary statement.

And I didn't know there WAS a hardware section here. So sorry too.

I have never had a problem with any of my creative products.

I have 3 sound cards, 2 speaker systems, a webcam, and an MP3 player that all work fine to this day, and some of it is pretty old.

I have also never had a problem with any of their drivers either, only thing that messed up was my fault when I re-installed XP.

I don't know maybe I am just lucky?

I havn't run into any of the problems that you have either.

eh, whatever though, lots of people have problems with different things.

Creative has always been a bitch for Operation Flashpoint too (The other game I play). Thats why I like my onboard nForce2 so much. :)

I've had the same audigy 2 card for over a year, moved across 2 different computers, and i've never had a problem with either the hardware or software. I'm guessing this is user error.

I wish that Hercules would make a new Gametheatre to compete with the Audigy.

I love my GTXP. So sexy. Works so sweetly. Drivers are so simple, not overflowing with crap.

I have a SoundBlaster Audigy Digital Entertainment 5.1. I was planning on getting an Audigy2 ZS soon. I hear it's THX certified.

What processor are you using?

If I recall Creative cards have always had a problem with AMD chipsets. Or something to do with AMD.

I've never had a problem with Creative hardware, it's all I've ever used for sound.

for me onboard sound will never be an option. an external soundcard will always be the best option. no interference with any of the devices inside the computer. alot of people dont care, but i am extremly anal with audio quality (im a producer) and if i hear ANYTHING that shouldnt be there i get pissy.

the extigy is awsome for games.

i am looking to get an audigy soundcard sometime int he near future... but i'm using the inbuilt sound on my m/board at the moment. shouild i still be interested in the sound card?

Three things to say about this:
1) You killed your mobo with a program called "KillCMOS"?? What in gods name inspired you to run that?
2) Ever think that maybe, just maybe, it was the MOTHERBOARD that had issues?
3) You really dont sound like the kind of guy who should be giving out technical advice.

Lol, good HL1 quote in your sig. Too bad I still haven't beaten it yet... I'm on the tracks now.

I think this statement speaks pretty much by itself. :p

I've had Creative sound hardware for as long as I can remember and haven't had a single problem yet. I would say 'user error' :)

Im pretty sure its in the beginning of HL1 where your about to enter the death.. err test chamber...

Anyway I have loads of problems with my Soundblaster audigy 2 retail, I have an Asus P4PE with 845 chipset so I dont belive it can be anything but drivers. The never drivers I use the more problems... At present with the origional drivers Everything seems to sound right exept mp3 music, however I still belive it is a good brand so I will possibly buy it the next time cause it is still the best for games IMO. And even though I have had these problems with my product I still do not think it allows the maker of this thread to be so pissy.

I'm thinking of getting an Audigy 2..even more so after reading the thread.

To the thread starter:
GET A LIFE!!!!

Creative hardware is damn nice but its drivers are overbloated and very confusing. If however you're looking for an alternative to creative then the M-Audio Revolution 7.1 is actually a better card than the audigy 2 zs and its drivers are excellent and also very simple compared to creatives.

i got my Audigy2 ZS from ebuyer for £50, and a set of Inspire 6700's for the same amount, i don't think you could have got better sound quality or gaming performance for less, i've had no problems with system instability since installing them a month ago, i think the original poster just needs to learn how to use a computer:upstare:

I have an Athlon 64, Radeon X800 XT PE, 1Gb RAM, and a Soundblaster Live 5.1

I can barely get above 20FPS on high settings. Whenever a new sound plays, it jerks. I think I'll be upgrading to an Audigy 2 ZS soon enough.

Wow! I didn't know!

Back in 1998.

www.google.com

;)

Creative is definitely hit and miss when it comes to working. Just wish Hercules Sound wasn't bought out by them a while back. :(

I did a search on that KillCMOS program. All its supposed to do is reset the BIOS, but why in the world would anyone trust a program to do that? I mean, there are jumpers on the motherboard that do the same thing with no risk of a virus, because apparently the program is known to be bundled with stuff like that to ruin your motherboard.

i think thats a problem with the game, my audigy2 sometimes does it, especially if it's the first time the sound has played in that sesion of play.

but yeah for HL2 the audigy is the one to get, you won't regret it:))

You will.

You know NOTHING about Creative until you're on their 10th out of 12 DIFFERENT cards you're troubleshooting...

Don't argue with a tech. ;)

I'm having a bright idea... I'm going to start charging those I fix their computer a "Creative charge" if anything remotely related to Creative Sound has ever touched their system. :p

I will say it again.... if you dont like creative buy an M-Audio 7.1 revolution

Well I can't think how upgrading from one creative card to another is gonna solve your problems.
You obviously have issues that are not related to the SB Live.

I have a Athlon 64, 1gb ram, 5900XT@480/850 and a 6 year old (nearly) SB Live Value, thats been carried through 4 Pc's, Its my only original bit of hardware left from when I had a 300a celeron, I get a constant 85+fps on max settings.

You obviously have a driver problem or a misconfiguration somewhere.
I suggest you check your settings in the bios for anything that would effect performance, And re-install all your drivers.
A lot of people are convinced that just installing the Creative drivers and not the rest of the rubbish improves things somewhat, By the rest of the rubbish, I mean, Playcentre, SB live experience software, And any other software creative tries to install when you install drivers.

i have an audigy 2 zs sound card and it is lush,

maybe you jsut dont konw how to operate a computer??

annndd most chipsets smell sppesh ac97 and realtek

i had onboard ac97 and i was liek arrrgg cos it was tinny and didnt know what eax was,
PLUS

chipsets require cpu power to render the sound, a soundcard will take the work away from the proccy thusly u do it a Inney weeny bit more fps!! and great sound did i mention ? and 7.1 maybe and 108 dB snr and maybe like omg digital out ?

Creative drivers have been pretty bad but they are generally compatibility issues with how the card works with other devices. The drivers for the cards themselves work well generally. I personally do not buy creative products. I own Creative webcams, Creative Sound Blaster (worked well), Live 5.1 (meh) and Audigy (negative) but I do not use any of them as I have purged them from my system. lol

Audigy 2 cards are good cards, especially for 3D sound positioning but there are better cards for quality. Not naming any models but just brands, M-Audio, Turtle Beach, Hercules etc. There are also many cards worse.

That would be older VIA chipsets, which also make chipsets for Intel.

Have one already.

Just because you lack the knowledge to know what is compatible with what, doesn't make the rest of us happy Creative consumers like you. And you used KillCMOS, wow, your someone I'd rely on with computer info.

Ever since then, my problems have gone away entirely.
Maybe because you have a pathetic 2.1 built in sound system doing all the "hard work" for you.

OH, but don't stop me there!
No, please do.

You bought a Creative (a company mainly based around audio hardware) WEBCAM, and expected great performance. Sigh...

I thought the problem had gone for good until I bought WinDVD earlier this year - then again my DVD playback was choppy.

Why? Cos the bloody software installed CREATIVE AUDIGY drivers when I didn't tell it to!!

Here's a hint, stop buying Creative software, you apparently have a weird unheard of computer that can't handle it.

All I can say is, DON'T TRUST CREATIVE! THEIR DRIVERS SUCK, THEIR HARDWARE SUCKS, AND YOU'RE BETTER OFF WITH THE INBUILT SOUND ON YOUR NFORCE2 MOBO!
Just because YOU got stuck using crappy *onboard sound *(inbuilt isnt a word, just for your future reference), don't tell the rest of the world to not buy what is probably the most quality pieces of audio hardware you can buy.

Heed my words.
If anyone does, I feel bad for them.

I bought a creative mouse once. And the forward and Back buttons didnt work. heh. good stuff.
