itt: people insult Macs despite not having used one in years

Believe it or not there's a thing or two the latest renditions of Windows could learn from OSX

MACS ONLY HAVE ONE MOUSE BUTTON AND DONT PLAY GAMES, PCs ARE FOR GAMERS, Y'ALL!!!

for reals, PC is the bestest! <goes back to playing games on a console>

I used a Mac to do web development up until last fall at my work. I hated the damn thing, and relished the time I spent at home with my PC. The Mac just seemed like a gimped version of a PC. The only redeeming feature I could find in it was Expose.

I don't think OSX = Mac. A Mac is the collection of hardware Apple put together to sell people for ridiculous prices. I can load OSX on my PC anytime I want (but I hate it so why would I?) because Macs are now just a PC with a different case. Having pried open and fixed Macs before, I can tell you that they use cheap 3rd party parts from companies like Foxconn. These parts are not "special", they are the same budget hardware you can buy from newegg yourself for 20 bucks to put on your PC.

I find it quite funny that people still hold to the idea that Macs are somehow substantially different than PCs. I assure you, that is not the case. Nowadays the only difference is the OS that comes loaded on them, and the price. Given that I personally disliked OSX (and this is a personal gripe, not some claim that either OS is inferior/superior) I have no reason to even consider buying an Apple product.

Facetious comments aside, PC--aw hell, who am I kidding--Windows gaming is enough of a reason for me to spare my existing shits and not give one regarding the topic of Macintosh computers.

Friend says that OS9 was a trillion times more kickass than OSX, and that the latter is just a ripoff of Unix (which is a ripoff of Xerox?!)

that's not true. OS9 was the transitional OS that eased into osx. it ran like crap during it's lead up to osx and when I finally did upgrade to osx it was a vast improvement. I think we still have a os9 mac here at the office

technically every OS is a ripoff of xerox since they were the first to use a GUI.

OS9 to OSX is about the same as windows 98 and windows vista.

I'd like a third option that says "I'm indifferent to this entire argument"

Elaborate how it is "dumbed down."

As Majestic said, they strive for usability, not complexity. With that, comes limitations. If you're not going to take the time to learn a "complex" PC, then you deserve a Mac.

And how is that a bad thing? Last i recall usability=good, complexity=frustrating.

Complexity is better if you know how to use it, sure it takes time to learn, but in the end, you can do more with something that is complex than something that isn't.
