But why i can`t play without DVD?

Another question:

I have 2 PCs @ home:

  • 1 PC with DVD-Player,
    1 PC withhout DVD-Player.

Can i take the HL²-Folder from the DVD-PC and install/play this game over my network at my PC without DVD-Player (its the same account)??

I copy the installed HL²-Folder from the first PC at my PC whitout DVD,
I log into Steam,
I start HL² and hope, Steam download/update some files and Reg-Entrys to play HL².
But Steam doesn´t make this:
Message: "DirectX8.0 or more are installed.."
And then... Nothing ;-/

Can anyone help me??

Sorry 4 bad english :D

Thx 4 all,
Stony

I've installed from the DVD, and it is asking for the DVD in the drive as soon as i try to run the game. i don't have a dvd drive - installed from a mapped dvd drive on the network.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Nope, the UK retail version does seem to require the DVD to be in the drive when you start the game. The message is something like "Insert disc and try again". Annoying.

I wonder if deleting the local cache in steam and downloading the whole thing afresh will remove the need for the disc...

i tried that, and i still can't run the game without the DVD in the drive.
