Tbh, I've never heard that term before this thread.

Weed is just like booze. A little bit every now and then makes for a fun time. If you overdo it frequently it's bad for you. The U.S. is way too anal about it.

They're the same way about sodomy. Go figure.

"Why drink and drive, when you could get high and fly"

Nope. I've never done any drugs and I never plan to either.

Ive got a load of friends who dont drink or do drugs etc, but they never use the term straight-edge, because it has become something of a bandwagon that all the scene kids hop on to. (Ian MacKaye hates the whole idea of it now.) Teetotal people can be useful as the designated driver.

But yeah, weed. I do smoke it, usually 2-3 times a week, but thats only when I can be bothered to pick up. So I'll pick up, smoke it over a few weeks, then wont pick any more up for another few months. Tis fun, but I always end up getting the munchies and eating until I feel sick

How the **** has straight edge become a bandwagon anyways? Its like, I haven't heard the term since the early 90's(well, until I said it here)

btw, does anyone have that pic of the 'LIVE: Cannabis legalized in New York' and new york going up in smoke?

Hmm I can see why people are starting to think that it's a bandwagon sometimes.

Around here there are loads of kids that run around claming to be edge for about a week before losing interest, but for that week they'll walk around X'ing up at every opportunity, and talking crap telling everyone how cool they are because they're all sXe. If you go down to the local 'rock club' thing, you can spot a few of them X'd up and dancing like pricks to metal bands (I hate this whole new thing where every band is a hardcore or METALXCORE band). None of these kids have ever even sniffed a real hardcore show, and probably never heard a real hardcore band. They will quite happily be all hardcore and dancy to their silly new metal band, and when a true hardcore song comes on, none of them even bat an eyelid. They just walk off without a clue. It's a right shame. DeatheVader probably knows of, or at least has heard of this place considering he lives in Preston (its called 'the warehouse') but I assume it's much the same throughout most places these days.

Anyway, back a little more on topic.. To most kids around here being edge seems to be a fun little trend to try out. They don't understand how serious it is to a lot of people, and therefore just abuse it. Meaning people who come into contact with these idiots will be tricked into believing that edge is a silly bandwagon D:!

Basically kids that act like this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4173575198053728505 shouting that's what being edge is all about yo!

When really... http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5181241266832080321 is more likely the kind of place you'd find real edge kids.

I know many stoners but don't do it myself. I go against what's cool cuz that's just me.

Sorry for the double, but why would kids have X'es on their hands when XXX is not straight edge. So just one X is straight edge? Well I think metal kicks ass though.
Btw, I loled at the video of the hardcore dancers. It was the funniest thing I've seen all day.

No. Not into it. But its not as bad for you as people say. If you do it once in a while like a few of the people i know it doesnt effect you what so ever.

Never will and never have.

After watching it pretty much become the sole purpose of after-job life for a friend of mine and seenig him waste away the time by just sitting smoking. dropping out of school, being an irritable person if he wasn't high. His personality did a complete 180 in a matter of months, and none of us enjoyed the person he had become. When he eventually started to get into other stuff that's when we decided it was time to say goodbye after he just wouldn't listen to any sort of reason.

Heh, i'm not seeing your reasoning.

Speaking of which.....
Its something to do when you're bored or with friends and it's pretty entertaining
A lot like a movie, except you don't have to leave your house
and if you're like me, it costs less too

Go home! :P

Doesnt it kill braincells or something?

And I try so very hard to belive everything i hear.
It actually doesn't. If it did, doctors wouldn't perscribe it for the simple little things that they do (eg appetite stimulant and pain reliever). I'd link to proof, but i'm lazy :p

Are you sure? I thought if you took it in large dosages....

Something I have learned through my life. The people who are "cool" in this world are the ones who neither try to act "cool" nor do they rebel against what is "cool".

Smoking to be "cool" is stupid, however refusing to smoke for that reason just makes you look rather arrogant. The "I don't put poisons into my body" sounds good but in reality you live with poisons in your body every day. We live very unnatural lives yet for some reason we don't accept it, and then call a naturally growing plant that has been smoked by litterally millions accross the globe for centuries (legally in most cultures) unnatural?

If someone does weed I don't really care, the biggest problem with marijuana users is not the drug itself but the culture surrounding it. We alter our bodies all the time with legal medical drugs. We take drugs to eliminate pain, we take drugs to help us digest food, we take drugs to eliminate depression. Yet as soon as someone takes a drug that has a temporary effect on the psyche we freak out and implace laws. Yes taking too much is bad for you, but are you so moronic as to also then argue that pain killer drugs should be outlawed because taking too many can hurt you as well?

Marijuana does not cause the brain to develop a mental dependency the same way cocain can, that is a totally different situation. You can develop a mental dependency to basically anything, I currently have a mental dependency on chewing my finger nails. When marijuana users get "addicted" it isn't because of the marijuana drug having some strange effect on the brain causing them to require more, their brains have just become used to it and feel comfortable when it is under it's effects. Same way I feel comfortable chewing my finger nails.

The culture surrounding marijuana is what causes people to smoke too much, it is also what causes people to do stupid things with it.
