:hmph: i dont know if i want to play a demo before release you know.

hmmm i can wait for the game to release then wait for a demo. i mean a demo could spoil it maybe. Even if it doesnt it still can with the graphics, movement and so on if u know wat i mean. the feel of the play the way the ai react.

i dont mean spoil the storyline. i mean the feel of the game playing it.

what do you lot think?

I think it's safe to say that if they made a demo like many games do, the demo wouldn't spoil anything plot wise. That is, it would be a cool level or two, but nothing "deep." After seeing the original HL, we can be pretty assured there'll be a few interesting plot twists here and there.

I don't, actually - at least, not before the actual game release. The demo would allow me to play with the physics and other gameplay elements, and by the time I actually get the game i'd be bored of them. I want to keep my experience pure.

I wouldn't mind a demo similar to the HL1 demo (can't remember the name). A demo that dosen't give away story but allows you to see how the game looks, feels and runs on your particular machine would be ok with me :)

I dnt think they'll release a demo coz it will ruin the suprise a bit and it will give away the gameplay b4 release.

And also people r still waiting to buy new video cards , or the old 9800 pro's/xt's when the price comes down, so i think it will do more harm then good IMO.

I really dont think they need a demo to sell there game for the initial release, they will probbally have some sort of demo available via steam when things calm down, depends if they feel they need it.

The half-life uplink demo was excellent, it was completely seperate from the main game and had every aspected of gameplay compacted into 3 levels.

Im wilth you on that, as much as I would LOVE a demo I want everything in the game to feel like a new discovery, its the same reason I didnt go anywhere near the stolen build, just want the best experiance I can get.

unless something has changed, they plan on a demo AFTER release.

yea i think your all right i mean a demo would spoil it in the way of the "FEEL" of the game.

also i dont think there is any need for a demo when the release isn't really that far to go.

that isn't a thread based on should there be a demo. that is someone just added that to the topic so it was OFF TOPIC in that thread hehe.

demo 2 weeks after release is fine with me...

I could be mistaken, but didn't the first Halflife have a playable full level ai demo that wasn't in the final game?

I remember being shot at by soldiers on a kind of gantry bridge leading to a warehouse...

uplink was amazing. but i agree with the general feeling in this forum. A demo might spoil. What I think they should do is release a demo similar to the HDR or release a realtime version of one of the other vids so we can all get properly excited and see if our pc's are ready.

dont get why companies release a DEMO after the release of the game.

i mean a DEMO = DEMONSTRATION (spelling) of the game it's self showing you what it has to offer and tryin to say "BUY ME"

and so in order to convince those people that weren't absorbed by the craze of hl2 before its release but after release begin to wonder what it's all about: They release a demo

very true indeed. i mean for all i care they could release a demo of the DX9 vid maybe a bit bigger more roaming around..

NOT ADDING ANY enermy...just scenery. then we can all test how well the game runs on our comps :D hehe that be class! i would be happy.

Mm, that would be nice. Valve did promise us a benchmark a long time ago... maybe we'll get one soon enough.

i never played Hl demo "uplink" was it a starter to the hl story or just showing off hl.

i am wondering this because someone said the demo was called "day one"

I think Demo's in general are a fantastic concept, and alot of games companies that are trying to get their product "out there" and played by as many people as possible realy need demo's, But a game like HL2 with such a masive established fan base neednt bother with a demo untill after the games
release, Because all the fans will buy the game, and all the people that adopt a wait and see atitude will have a demo to convince them that the game is good, bad whatever.

O YEA! hehe very true man. that is all i need and i will be happy. i mean i can see the bump mapping effects on the wall...the great scenery and see if it works on my comp. that will do for me

Halflife:Uplink

Is that what it was called... *fond memories*

Twas a good solution I thought, as it didn't give away the main storyline but showed off the engine and gameplay.

Made ME buy it, anyway - and still one of the most memorable parts of halflife.

The only reason i bought farcry, aside from the stellar reviews, was the demo i played. Even though hltv would be free, it would show off hl2 mp and not sp. Didn't uplink come out much much later for hl1? Honestly i don't think valve will release a demo any time soon. They don't have to. They have such a following that many will buy the game from their experience with hl1.

Yeah I think I'd rather see a benchmarking tool than a demo.

i concur.

Demo's only work for some games like operation flashpoint or strategy games... becuase you buy the full product to get more units and maps wich are the games main feature.

Hl2's main features are the gfx/physics/storyline and even playing 1 level would spoil it for a lot of people...

wow that uplink demo looks sweet.
but i uninstalled hl again for like the 5th time lol

A 1-map Multiplayer demo would've been cool, i could test my hardware before buying HL2.

EDIT: A benchmark would be better:thumbs:. NO SPOILERS thank you :frog:

yup benchmark would do me good

if a demo is released after and it was not in the hl2 game i will still end up dling it hehe

I think a demo of the HDR bink movie would be great.. :]

No matter what - if there was a demo release or not - you'd most probably buy a copy of HalfLife2 anyways. :p So I don't think there should be a demo pre-release but maybe one at the same time as release

Aye, that's the thing. I don't want a pre-release demo because if there was, I'd never be able to resist downloading. I'd then spoil myself from the actual game somewhat, and won't get the full experience I wanted in the first place :hmph:

Really the only way a release day demo release would work would be if it were launched on loads of independant websites at once. It would have to be kept off steam. Even using trust worthy sites it'd get leaked....

I am split on this issue. I mean, I would definatly download the demo. No way in hell I could resist. I mean I resisted the leak at all times. But an official demo.... Way beyond my restraint....

But I also dont wana spoil anything.....

I think once I have a firm release date and have something to aim for then I wont be bothered about a demo at all.

Yeah a tech demo would be best. If a pre-release demo came out and the release date slipped again there would be murder commited.... Still, if one was released I'd play it.
