Don Imus' comments

thats because it isnt a problem, but some people have nothing to do...

God our priorities are so ****ed up in every way.

We've got one crisis looming after another, from global warming to peak oil to a war with Iran to nukes in north korea, and all we can obsess over is this stupid sentence that some talk show host said. It's retarded.

Imus has said alot worse things. this is ridiculous.

Too bad, I like Imus. This just means he'll be off MSNBC. He may still be on the radio.

People have a right to free speech, however there is no right to not feeling offended. People that feel that they possess that right are a bunch of humorless SOBs and the world would be better off without them.

Building up a huge load of manufactured outcry over a harmless comment is just plane wrong. Maybe if he was supporting some horrible agenda or issuing specific slander it'd be a problem, but this was a harmless comment that some people got butthurt over and saw political gain in pursuing.

Hell i say offensive crap jokingly all the time, and i'm sure most of you do too. I'd really hate to live in a world where we couldn't be offensive to each other when we pleased.

The difference between you and Don Imus is public versus private. For the people who "fail to see a problem here", how can you not realize that RACE IS A SENSITIVE ISSUE.

thats just it though, race should not be that sensitive of an issue. The only reason it is, is because people won't leave well enough alone.

The more attention the keeps getting brought to maintaining or promoting political correctness, the more sensitivity you will create. If people would just sit back, stop basing their entire identity on the tone of their skin, and grow a sense of humor, then maybe we wouldn't be slowly degressing into a future where any harmless phrase will bring a storm of outrage.

actually, let me expand on that. People that base their entire identity on one thing, whether it be race, creed, or hobby, annoy the hell out of me, because its always those 1 dimensional people that throw the hissy fits. People who are are more balanced and rational thinking are less prone to going into outrage mode at the slightest provacation.

Al sharpton iis a dick bte..I can't believe some people think that actually solves problems. All he does is full the fire

Racism is indeed a serious issue (that can also be very hilarious), but come on. So much of this "outrage" is drummed up and fabricated by race-baiting leeches that can't get enough drama in their lives. A guy makes a stupid, ill-thought joke on his morning show and now he needs to court the round of talk-shows of people who "DEMAND AN APOLOGY FOR YOUR RACIST-ASS, DEPLORABLE, EVIL, DEVIL-TEAT SUCKING WORDS. OMG I AM SO SERIOUS, I'M GONNA PUNCH YOU IN THE FACE".

I don't listen to Imus, so I guess I don't really care. I've found him to be funny, although I dislike his constant use of the word "raghead". If NBC wants to punish him, whatever. But this is not some unacceptable, grand spectacle that so many are making it out to be.

as much as i've come to terms with the internet being a a cesspit that can corrupt as easily as it informs, I think it'd be in the best interest of humanity if everyone had a mandatory period of time in which they had to use 4chan.org. As much as the number of failures at life and pedophiles would skyrocket, you'd end up with a humanity that learns to have a thicker skin and laughs more stuff off.

The funny thing is, he has said much more offensive things to other groups, but he is getting fired for...this.

This sickens me, MSNBC took him off so now he gets less publicity to host his TELETHON for KIDS WITH CANCER. Very noble MSNBC, you have integrity

Saying "if a black person said this about a white person nobody would care..." is useless to everybody.

The only possible response is "yes they would". Neither claim nor counter-claim can be proven or disproven.

Instead, show evidence that a black person said this about a white person and nobody cared - and vice versa.

That would make a lot more sense. See the difference between the hypothetical and the actually-happened?

you have such an unrealistic world view ..MSNBC is a business, they've already lost advertising revenues because of this (without advertising revenues there is no program) ..he should be fired because in any other business that's exactly what would happen. He is not entitled to free speech on a privately owned, publically regulated medium and any protestations to the contrary is just being shortsighted

I'm really starting to see that for many of you something is only as offensive if it relates to you personally ..as if the world revolves around your pov .it's just utterly nonsensical to judge what other people should do based on your personal pov and nothing else

Like I said, the guy did a lot of good. But does that mean he can say and do whatever he wants because he rasied a lot of money for children?

I do not think he should have been fired, but the excuses you keep making for his comments make absolutely no sense.

"The suspensions start April 16, and MSNBC's "future relationship" with Imus depends on "his ability to live up to his word"

Yet 2 days later they toss him, before he does his telathon, which if simulcasted would be much more successful, which just shows how lame and scared they are

Am i wrong to say that theres a double standard with free speech between black and white people? Just shows how much of a pussy this country is. If im the only one who thinks ot was blown out of proportion tell me, PLEASE

According to the transcript No Limit posted, Imus didn't say that, it was the other guy. :|

yes but it was on his show and he agreed with the assessment ..he is responsible for the content of his show ..just like howard Stern got nailed for the contents of his show

here we go again, you really are thick headed ..again please explain what that has to do with anything in this particular case ...here and right now lay out why exactly you think this is the deciding factor as to why Imus should or shouldnt be fired for comments expressed on his show ..if you cannot present a compelling argument please shut up ..regurgitating the same shit does nothing to prove anything ..so either lay it all out or stop pestering us with the same thing over and over again

Pestering you? Who do you think you are, king of the politics forum? Drop yourself down a peg for starters.

He should not be fired because what he said was not nearly as bad as how people are reacting. It was not said with malice nor was it meant to be an intentional racist insult. It was at worst a slip of the tongue, which he apologized for. Its almost his own fault though for apologizing to Sharpton so readily.

yes you are pestering us by saying the same thing over and over again ..without providing anything to back up your statement ..you still havent provided compelling justifications

do you even hear yourself? people are reacting and you are saying it's an overreaction ..as if you hold the key to this entire debate .."well he shouldnt be fired because I said so" ..how do you not understand how that makes no sense whatsoever? what does your opinion have to do with whether people were outraged or not?

it doesnt matter if it was without malice (which isnt true and is just being apologetic)

see this is what's wrong with your country ..hateful statements by bigoted morons is defended by the majority yet god forbid you expose a nipple on national tv ..the shit will literally hit the fan, careers will be ruined, ineffectual apologies will be made to god and country, morality groups will be mobalised with military like precision, soccor moms south of the bible belt will hold their children and make the sign of the cross to ward off evil ..etc ..but should anyone dare rob the dignity of an entire group it'll be ok because god knows that if they made a racist remark no one would say anything so that makes it alright

None of this matters. Another network will pick up Imus and he'll probably make more money. There's a saying in the business world: Any publicity is good publicity.

A big reason why its such a problem is that every time someone says anything race related someone somewhere makes a stink about it, its just separating the race line even more. Big Friggen deal, he called some girls a name, boo frigging hoo, theres more shit to worry about then what a radio personality called a few fugly girls. And jesus christ, have you seen those girls btw?

you either dont understand my points or you're purposefully ignoring them

oh and candy art = knghenry

Never said he wasnt doing it, and never mentioned cbs

Hmm, a little late to this one...

Fine him, don't fire him. This is one reason I hate radio (well, not satellite radio).

Well CBS fired him. This pisses me off. Let's just ignore a lifetime of good work over one stupid comment.

Yeppers...pretty un****ingbelievable. I stand thoroughly corrected, tyguy. I didn't think for a second that he'd get canned for this. Fined...etc. But fired??? No.

His comments were really stupid...career threatening??? I think not. This is a far shot from that moron Micheal Richards...and how many times did Howard Stern get slapped on the wrist. Hopefully, in time, Don Imus can get with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and begin the healing process...."kiss it...go on....kiss it". :hmph:

This whole thing is just an absolute ****ing disgrace.

The only thing Imus did wrong was fail to realize that everyone would react the way they have.

I was listening to the radio a few hours ago and they had a recording of some angry black lady that was the leader of some group for i forget what, but she was basicly saying that offensive statements should be censored because they're offensive.

Yes, lets censor all offensive statements, let no one have their feelings hurt so we can all live in blissful ignorance.

again free speech does not apply to a privately owned publically regulated medium like radio

the hypocracy here is that had it been any other business the person (under the same circumstances) would have been fired and no one would have raised a stink. But this isnt lost on advertisers who jump ship over the smallest infraction. They realise that public perception of a product/program/whatever is easily swayed by scandel or any negative press to the point where the consumer will simply choose a competing product. leaving the company with little choice but to begin damage control in hopes of winning back lost market share

First, Imus shouldn't have been fired simply because he said something that pretty much everyone in L.A. or Cleveland OH, or any other big city hasn't already said themselves, "ho". As it turns out, his show was cancelled for this comment. Yet Howard Stern had said MUCH worse things on his show. I feel that howard got away with it because people said, "that's howard stern, expect him to say ho" in the same context that people say, "that's george carlin, expect him to say n*gger" yet if i shouted out in the middle of the street "NAPPY HAIRED HO!!" no one would cut my pay for two weeks, and it would be in public. so the whole public private thing is bullshit if you ask me. I find it hard to swallow that someone gets offended by a sportscaster saying ho but a rapper or a comedian says it they laugh it off. If it offends you when one type of person says a racial slur but not another one simply because of the color on their skin, isn't that in itself racist?

is this a ho? -> :afro:
