Doom Movie News

Why is it that all the leaked stuff we heard about the movie during filming is nothing like it turned out?

Definately looking forward to it as it really does look like it could be one of the movies of the year.

Its sounding better to me, but if anyone thinks it doesnt matter that the main theme has been changed, and its ok to not have demons from 'hell' in DOOM, then you can GTFO :P.

How long did it take before this movie even went into production?? How many times did Id put the hex on it before it even got started because they didn't like the direction??

Until the last year and a half, I don't know how many times Id has come out and said they're not going to let anyone damage the image of the franchise or make a poor movie. Obviously this has been saif many times by many companies with marketable ip,but look at the timeline here....the original has been out for over a decade. Before you guys crap all over the movie because they've changed a few elements, why don't you see it. But no, per usual, the flock comes out to flame this movie. If the creators of the game are satisfied that should be enough to at least settle some nerves....Christ, they've delayed production on their own countless times to hammer out certain issues....script, cast, etc. Reserve judgement....you may be pissed that it's not Hell taking over Mars or there's too many people in the movie....those elements alone are not going to dictate whether or not Doom ends up being a great film.

On another note, I just recently saw Ghosts of Mars with Ice Cube. I was thinking that this may or may not have contributed to some of the changes we'll see in the movie. No hell on Mars....people getting possessed, turning into zombies/demons. Maybe there's some truth to that.....using the Hell theme may have put them dangerously close to having buy usage rights, or pay royalties, etc. Obviously there are distinct differences, but some elements could be considered. Plus there was Event Horizon with the opening of a gateway to Hell. I don't know the rules about game ip and movie ip, BUT I don't think you can sue someone for making a game with similar elements to a movie, but you can ask for reimbursment.....I don't know, maybe I'm talking out of my ass. I'll say this, the Hell theme is NO thinner or worse than the virus theme. Something happened to force this change, that is obvious.

Id's previous handling of films does not mean this will be a good one. For all we know, previous endeavors may have been absolutely abysmal. And I, fortunately enough, tend to know what movies I will and won't like.

If history's a factor in this, then by all means, the movie will be horrible considering how most video game -> movie conversions work out.

Now, this is not to say I won't give the film a shot. I'll see it because it's Doom and that's interesting enough to me. I might be able to forgive its alterations, as I have been proven wrong before. But I am not being unreasonable when I'm annoyed with the disrespect shown to source material. Wether it was because of legal problems, an attempt to gain a larger audience, or sheer ignorance, the outcome is the same, and that's what matters.

And on that note, it's pub time.

Todd Hollenshead didn't think it was disrespectful to the original source material.
