Couldn't find the answer to this.

I live out in the stix so the fastest I get is 64k ISDN, however... at work I've got 4MB broadband, so do you think I can purchase HL2 via steam, then burn it to DVD and take it home and hopefully just plonk it back into the steam folders?

If not I'll be waiting about 2 weeks for it to download :(

Why dont you just buy it then?
You know, box and all.

I think he wants to download it from Steam because apparently it is released on Steam first, then at retailers (at least in some smaller countries).

I have no proof but there is nonetheless little doubt in doubt my mind that you'll be able to do this. Afterall, user uploaded ad-hock cache files of all of Steam games were available through Bit-Torrent before Valve released them themselves and they worked fine just by copying them. So I think all you'll have to do is shut down steam and copy them into ..\steamapps\your-e-mail\etc and then restart and login. Seeing you're using the same e-mail / pw etc it should just just work... :)

Yep, thats right.

Because being in the UK they don't really care about us gamers and nearly always wait till a Friday.

And IMO I can't see them getting it to retail stores or even UK online stores by the first friday after the 30th - but thats another thread, so lets keep to the subject ;-)

you talk shit m8, the uk gets games at the same time as the us, or even some games earlier.

However i will still gewt it off steam.

Gabe said somewhere that you'd be able to copy the cache file to another computer. Since the authentication is from your Steam login, there shouldn't be any problem moving it from your work computer to your home computer. You'll probably need to burn the cache file on a CD (or CDs), or use a wicked portable hard drive like my Lacie.

You'll be able to do this but you'll have to be online to play the game I think. Even Single player.

mhtsaras said it :) u just have to burn the cache file

Actually all US games are released on a Tuesdaay IIRC, UK games are released on a friday. So usually you lot get them earlier.

this has been discussed numerous times, and you do not have to be online to play singleplayer

Ok I want a very clear answer. If you buy HL2 online via steam do u have to be online to play LAN?

Thats a nice attitude you have.

Yeah, I could wait, or I could get it when it's released - thats the beauty of choice. Me, like many others want it as soon as it's available.

btw, thanks to all the "nice" people for confirming the cache copying option.
