I think you should be able to select to download it all at once via steam, I have BB and will purchase hl2 on steam

Yes, we SHOULD be able to... and hopefully we will... I'd really like them to release some information on this soon... maybe it'll come with the end of the 'beta' stage...

what im saying is I DO NOT want to download hl 2 as im playing it I want to dl it ALL AT ONCE because I have broad band and that would work for me

and I want it all at once or else I dont really want to buy it on steam

i think i remeber reading that as an option, i also remeber gabe saying he'll consider the thought that alot of people (including myself) will want to buy hl2 in a store becuase they want to actually own physically the cd the case the manual etc.

You can get Steam to download it all at once, what you do is start HL2 up for the first time, uncheck the "Start as soon as possible" box, then sit back and wait as Steam downloads the rest.

alb, your buyin via steam? you dont want the box or any extras or stuff like that?

I like to have a hard copy of this game in case somtheing gose wrong...... you never know.

Yeah, but some people like to have some tangible physicla evidence that they own the game.

when it comes out if you just right click and select 'update automatically' i'm sure it will download the whole thing

perhaps it downloads while it plays the intro sequence.
if it's anything like HL1, you'll have a good 30 minutes there of pure intro.
Thats plenty of time for a couple gigs to download.

HL1 did not have 30 minutes worth of intro. It was like 5 minutes at most. If I have to watch Gordon ride in a train for 30 minutes I'm gona go nuts.

I've not decided which way to go yet, if Steam works out cheaper (well there's no box, manual or CD to be printed) then maybe, but it also depends what's on the Special Edition CD/DVD.

Yeah I agree though, I hope we have the option to download all at once, I found it a little slow loading section by section when I played though op4 on Steam.

As far as something "going wrong" is concerned, by buying over steam I have (as far as I uncderstand) the opportunity to download as often as I like, and I may back up the files on to CD's anyways.

alb, your sig is retarded. noone cares if you bought a dell. If you built it it would be different. but clicking "Customize" on the screen isnt building your own.

Personally I wouldn't get my HL2 from Steam (price doesn't matter here) for a few reasons.

1)You don't get box, CD, or manual.
2)You have to download it and that takes time + you have to have Steam and internet on any computer that you want to install it on.
3)Not very convenient. You'll see what I mean if you compare CS 1.5 to CS 1.6. Maybe not.

I suggest that you send a private message if you're going to say something off topic or personal.

The download as you play is stupid. What if my internet gets disconnected? Then I can't play anymore? crap.

Main reason I want the media is incase i have to reinstall OS, buy a new computer, that sort of thing.. I don't want to have to download a gig again..

Maybe if it were feasible to burn some cds with the steam cache on it and have it use that? Or something along those lines? That'd be cool

If you buy the game in a store, can you also download it on steam, like if you were at someone elses house and did not have your cd?
