Driv3r got only 5.4 on gamespot ?!!!

What do you mean, even VC got a 9.6?

Vice City was an awesome game.
 
WHAT do you mean even 9.6? 9.6 and 5.4 have a big difference.

Gone are the days when I trusted gamespot's reviews, I really relied on them but now, well...

The A.I of driv3r is stupid indeed, let me give you an example.I made Tanner get out of the car and the cops were after me. THE COP CAR STOOD THERE doing nothing waiting for me to switch cars...how stupid could it get? I was relieved that the cops could get out of the car and shoot though, but overall the A.I. is horrible.

The missions are fun at first, but the on-foot stuff is a nightmare.

driv3r has good car models/damage modelling though but eventually that's about it. It deserves a 6/10 or something.

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying vc is a bad game. but i just think driv3r is newer than vc and featuring similar gameplay and plot, i think it should surpasse its precedents which doesn't seem to be the case according to gamespot's review.

Rent it first.On the ps2 even gta III which is almost 3 years old has better graphics than driv3r (ps2 version). The xbox version is much better of course, but hopefully the pc version should be the best with less bugs and higher res.
 
after watching the review, i think some of the problemes in the xbox or ps2 version can be eliminated in the pc version. The on foot gameplay can be a lot better with mouse and keyboard, also i think pc is powerful enough to make the view distance longer.
 
driv3r sucked. the 2nd one sucked. only the orginal was worth playing.

Newer game + better graphics doesn't = better game. Looks ain't everything. I have driver 1&2 and they were ok games, but nothing special (maybe driver 1 was when it came out, but 2 was just the same with pointless features added...). I think they also made that Stuntman game which was boring.

Take Deus Ex 2 for instance... doesn't surpass it's predecessor.

And don't expect anything to be fixed for the PC version... it'll probably just be a straight port... unless it sells LOADS for the PS2 like GTA:VC did.

Well considering they are two completly differant games, I would say which one came first doesnt mean a whole lot to a reviewer. :x
 
It's not that suprising, Driver has always been shite :/ - now it's just shite with better gfx (which, tbh, should keep most pc gamers happy :D )
 
I think it totally deserved the review that it got.....5.4, slightly better than average.
 
The game is great. I own it, a friend of mine owns it, and two friends have played it here. They all agree that it is a great game. In no way does it deserve a 5.4, the reviewers are on crack. So far I have encountered one major bug - sometimes the director mode screws up and your replays get messed up. That's it, not a big deal. I haven't found hardly any of the things they mentioned in the reviews, and the things they did mention were blown way out of proportion. They complained about your car stopping when it hit a light post, well that's what happens in real life. I guess they have played so much GTA they assume that a sedan should be able to mow down a light pole and keep going, it's stupid complaints like these that make them lose all credibility. Here's an idea - don't crash into the f**king pole.

The graphics are top notch, very impressive car models and lighting effects. The guy who said they were worse than GTA3 is wrong, they're better in EVERY respect. The in car gameplay is the best of the best, you probably won't find any better until Driver 4. The chase scenes are great fun, they make similar games look really elementary. The entire car portion of the game is top notch, high quality stuff. The on foot portions are the games weakest point, but it's not terrible. By the time you get to Nice the controls will be easy and the fighting actually becomes better than Vice City, you just need to get used to it.

Overall, I'd give it a 9.5. If you liked the previous games, you'll love Driver 3. I don't know anyone who dislikes the game. Don't go into it expecting GTA though, it is still very much a Driver game, and is very much focused on driving. I've only had a few days with the game, but I believe I'm probably going to like it better than Vice City. It's a truly top notch game.
 
^^ Just because it's realistic doesn't mean it's fun. Crashing into a lightpole and stopping may happen in real life, but in DRIV3R it's just f*cking annoying. Having to replay a mission over and over and over just because I crashed into a tiny pole that I could barely even see just plain sucks balls.

The graphics are really good though. Much better than GTA.
 
I'm sorry I have no problem with the light poles. They're not hard to see at all, and they're very easy to avoid. The idea is to make it to where the player is constantly dodging obstacles - whether it be people, dumpsters, light poles, or traffic. The game isn't very easy, but that's a good thing. To complain in a professional review that a light pole didn't get taken down by a sports car is ridiculous. As a matter of fact one of my complaints about GTA was that you could crash through light poles, it just looked so stupid to see a taxi just smash right through a light pole and keep on truckin' like nothing happened.

As a matter of fact, I think Driver 3 would be a better game if the damage modeling was even more realistic than it already is. I think if someone smashes their car into a light pole, then the car should realistically wrap around the pole, not just take some damage. If the played survives then he should have to quickly steal another car. I like that aspect of the game.
 
I personally love DRIV3R. I don't do the campaign, rather get some cheats, invincibility, all weapons, all cars, and just have an awesome time. It doesn't look as cartoonish as GTA does either. Cars are awesome to wreck, and there are alot of buildings you can go into. Most things are destrucible, besides buildings of course. I reccomend it if you like the origional free-roam game. By the way, having an emultor for X-Box games for your PC, and when you have awesome graphics cards and such, makes the game 10x better visually and the FPS rate. :) So, find an emulator if you have a good PC.
 
To my knowledge there is no good x-box emulators, 1 can play halo though, but you have to do alot of shit to get it working, just what x-box emulator are you using? Or are you just smoking pot and playing x-box normally but mistaking it for a PC because it is so huge?
 
Driver 3 (I refuse to call it that semi-1337 bs name) got a 3/10 on Eurogamer.. :D

I'm guessing they stole the idea from Wip3out...which happens to be one of the best racing games on the PSX, but I digress...
 
I played the first one on the PS1...Finished it and didn't look at it again.
 
driv3r just plain sucks, but the driver series is really underapreciated, the interface of driver 1&2 are really similiar to the later gta's. you can even see some gameplay similiarities between the earlier drivers and the later gta's, thus driver series more than anything is just influential
 
The first Driver was so much fun, it was just so well balanced. They really messed it up for the second one. Not only did it look worse, but it ran slower, and all the cars handled like elephants.
 
I like all of Reflections games. Driver 1/2 was great, Stuntman was hard as hell but still pretty fun, and Driver 3 is a really great game. People need to understand than Driver 3 is not GTA4, it's a game focused almost entirely on car chases. There is a fully competent on foot aspect of the game, but it's certainly not the focus. The review scores are ridiculous, I recommend anyone who liked the previous games in the series to try it. My only complaint is it's easier than the other two.
 
I looked at a few of the screenshots... the clipping looks messed up in alot of them? these are official screenshots too... is it like that ingame?
 
There is some clipping in game, most notably when you shoot an enemy. They fall through whatever obstacles are in the way. The reason this happens is because the game has an advanced physics system, so a bunch of objects get thrown around in firefights. And since the game doesn't use ragdoll, the enemies either fall through the objects or get stuck on top of them when they die. However with the main character the objects all react to his movement. Overall it's not a big problem and I haven't noticed it at all in the car portions of the game.

Another thing about the physics system, it's pretty advanced. All the different cars and objects have a mass, as well as Tanner. For instance when you use the forklift some will topple it over while some won't, and if Tanner jumps on top then most of them will fall over. It's kinda cool, pretty good use of physics but nothing like HL2.

You're an asshole, who probably hasn't even played it. I keep replying because people keep posting questions that I know the answer to or trying to argue with me. I'm not a fanboy, as a matter of fact I wasn't even going to buy the game until I saw it at a friend of mines house and loved it. I just hate ignorant, stupid people like yourself trying to force their opinions on others. I like the game, all of my friends that have played it like it. When I see a topic asking whether or not it deserved a 5.4, I voice my opinion that it didn't.

This is a great game and I'm having fun with it. The game is not supposed to be like GTA, but since people were constantly comparing it to GTA I listed a few of the ways in which it was better. I don't care if you like it, I'm sure many people don't like it. I'm sure many people who haven't played it assume it's bad because of reviews, so I give them my opinion that it's good.

I have bought many bad games that have wasted my money and I will freely admit that. Why would Driver 3 be any different? Better yet, why the f**k would I want to convince a moron like yourself that I'm trying to justify my purchase, I don't give a damn what you think. I knew what to expect before I got it, and when I did I was impressed. My point is not to listen to reviews, to have your own opinion and rent the game, especially if you liked the previous games in the series. But I guess it's better for people like you to let Gamespot think for you.
 
i really think i should give driver 3 a try even though it got bad score everywhere, cuz the car looks very appealing to me. I think couple major problems like on foot shooting and objects don't appear in long distance would be fixed in the pc version, cuz shooting will be a lot of fun with mouse and the view distance can be a lot longer in nowaday's pc which is stronger than ps and even xbox.

we are free to voice our opinion in a forum, but we should never hurt anyone with words, cuz insulting people is not the point of dicussion here.

Lol, just reading your post and Scott's post I would say you shot yourself in the foot there as Scott clearly has a lot more knowledge than you on the topic. We all have opinion and we are free to discuss them here, that is what a forum is for. Actually dictionary.com defines forum as "A medium of open discussion or voicing of ideas", so there you go. :)

The game looks interesting so I might give it a try. I have no expectations as I've never played any of the other series so I'll see how the game plays out.
 
You know it's not outside the realms of possibility to like a crappy game.
