So gamespot has a few new images up for Halo3. It looks like some multiplayer gameplay shots. What I found interesting were the armor designs. It seems the Spartan III armor will be in the game. (Note: master chief is a Spartan II... you would know if you read the books)

The latest halo novel, Ghosts of Onyx, reveals that the Spartan program was expanded and allowed a wider range of 'candidates' to be selected for the Spartan program at a young age. This means more flaws in the soldiers, but more Spartans being produced. Also the Spartan III's were wearing more stealth armor(invisibility stuff) with no shielding like the Spartan II Mjolnir armor.

This first image of the red armor with the larger helmet visor is the same kind of armor shown on the cover of the latest Halo novel. This leads me to believe that this is the Spartan III armor.

This next image is a different style of armor not seen anywhere else. No clue what it could mean.

As you can see, the red armor in the pic is the same we're all familiar with. The blue armor is new.

I lol'd at space suit helmet master chief, for no particular reason.

This is going to be futile but let's keep the discussion in here just to Halo spec/general Halo chat and not a comparison/flamebait spam thread that usually happens. It'll probably happen anyway knowing the way some mods don't seem to care about derailment if it involves Halo in some way, but whatever.

Anyway, regarding the pics. I saw the armour in the first screen a few weeks back in a 360 magazine and personally I think it looks horrid, but I'm loving the second pictures armour. Hadn't seen that one before.

Also, the Brute 'chopper' was in said magazine, so maybe some pictures are floating around on the net now. Looks like a beefed up Harley with added engines.

I really think the Spartan III armor looks like a giant bug eye, but I agree with the new armor. It looks more evil...

@Icarus It looks like gameplay screenies. I don't know if it's done with a photo mode...

It's cool that they're putting in the SPI armor in and this new armor. I just wish they could make the story as compelling as the books.

That first screenshot is okay (too shiny for my taste), but the second one is just fugly. Ugliest snow and skybox ever.

We've been through this before when the beta came out :| Multiplayer is not amazing looking. The end.

I know one of those new armors are called Extra-Vehicular Activity armor, just not which one..

I agree that the snow doesn't look quite right, but I really like the sky. A fairly deep shade of blue and the moon makes it seem earthlike yet still an alien planet.

The snow clipping is horrible without the special effects around the bodies as seen in the first shot. First shot looks exicting though, even though I care almost 0 about this title....

Well the bubble-head one is the Spartan III's Semi-Powered Infiltration armor (SPI armor), so the other one must be this "EVA" armor or whatever.

Where did you hear this?

Wait, are you guys pretending this is new ? We know there is customisation for MP of which you unlock and there are a fair few pictures of the Chopper around and details about it.

Hmm, according to wikipedia.

"The Semi-Powered Infiltration Armor "SPI" that the SPARTAN-III's wear in the book will be referenced to in visuals by one of the playable character models in the multiplayer portion of Halo 3, entitled E.V.A, or, Extra-Vehicular Activity armor."

I know it's not 100% reliable, but makes sense to me.

I didn't think they'd make customizations have a large effect on gameplay (assuming they stay true to the book version of the SPI armor).

Notice in that 1st pic, the guy jumping in the upper left has yet another kind of helmet. I can't tell if the rest of the armor is any different.

I hope these things aren't merely cosmetic. That'd be pretty lame.

The special armor from the second picture is also visible in the first picture.

Oh f*cking WEAK:

These multiplayer-only, cosmetic changes to your armor are a way to add diversity, spice and flavor to Halo 3's multiplayer shenanigans

Also, the EVA armor makes no sense because the Spartan II's armor can already go into a vacuum - unless the EVA armor has a thruster system or something.

Sucky graphics and, judging from the other games, dull SP.

Bleh...

Why is it that everything I hear from the books sounds so goddamn awesome, but none of that ever makes it into the game?

It seems to have such a deep lore but it's only ever alluded to vaguely or stated somewhere in the manual as though it were common knowledge already.

Damnit Bungie, toss us a flashback or two, anything!

Well the first game was all 'stranded and looking for a way out'ish. The second game certainly could've had more but perhaps a future novel can explain the course of events more clearly (or around it, since that's the way it happened with the first/second novels in relation to the game).

Purely cosmetic. I think this is because each piece of armor has 5 different variations--normal, EVA, CQB, and two others seen here.
For example, you can get a normal chestplate, one with a knife, one with some type of tape recorder, two others for the mysterious leaked ones, and an unknown number of different armor variations for the Elites. I think even Valve would find it hard to make 50+ pieces of armor all balanced.

Also--the CQB guy looks just like a clone trooper. Totally playing as him so I can shout "FOR THE REPUBLIC!" every few minutes.

I'm somewhat reminded of the Lego 'Bionical' toys here... :D

Those renders look awesome. So having the one at the bottom right, if they are real that is.

I would've been much happier if they even just had the SPI armor in the game but actually make it impact gameplay. Give them the adaptive camouflage that they have in the books and take away shields while making the auto-aim stickiness toned down when trying to hit them.

That live action Halo clip was ****ing awesome and gives me hope for a Halo movie...

While looking awesome, I didn't get the feeling I was watching something in the Halo universe. The Warthogs in the background being the only exception. Reminded me more of Crysis to be honest, but that's just me.

Geezus, if I'm paranoid enough, I might actually go ahead and get the Halo 3 edition 360 shown...I just don't want to wait a million years for a pc version again D:
That and I'd rather get it on launch and beat it myself before being spoiled by f*****s on the internet about the ending.

It looks very very good !! Theres this one shot of a city scape full of smoke etc with fire blazing in the background... looks amazing !

That was sweet :)

Some of the fights looked so hectic, vehicles everywhere, bullets flying. Online co-op is going to be the nuts.

The graphics = 10/10
gameplay = 9.8/10

its fooking amazing. lOV3d IT
