And Crom I'll draw something from life if you give me a subject or photo to try my hand at.

Drawing anything breathing will always improve your skill, there's plenty of choice out there :D

Thanks for the kind words guys. Where I live there is a small crossroads gallery and I've been asked to draw something to go into the small contest amongst local artists. I will probably be thinking/working on a subject to complete and won't have time to post any small pics as I have done. I'll have to get good quick to make an impression though it's in a few weeks and I'm only home for 2 days per week!!!

It's been a while since I last updated this thread but I thought what the hey,. Here is my drawing of an old man's face. This is my first real effort at shading something so bear with me on this one.

Some nice shading on the face. Some strong lines distract the smooth shading thouh. And I'm not sure how big your original drawings are, but you should make them much, much bigger than what I see. Try filling up a page. Also, the hair could use more weight and highlight. Otherwise good attempt, keep practicing, we're both young and we've got a lot of time ahead of us :) .

You draw pretty good but I'd advise you to study anatomy, proportions and depth.
There's lots of tutorials and stuff on the net but I can only recommend to get good "anatomy for artists" style books.

You could check out www.fineart.sk for a start however, good luck and keep it up, practise makes perfect :)

More the merrier

Here are some more drawings to keep all you Lear-a-holics at bay. Enjoy.

If you can name which master drew the original to my first picture I'll give you my respect. (TheSomeone I'm looking at you for the answer!)

Damnit, I know this.
I know it's Napoleon, but I can't remember who drew one with a guy on his left. I'm stumped :o.

Nice drawings, but you should work on facial proportion/function. There are some nice books in the link Harij posted.

I'd tell you, but I plan on drawing and posting some more of his work so I'll wait and see if anyone knows which master I'm copying!!

I'll give you a hint, his last name begins with I and he died in the 19th century!!

P.S, Thanks for the link Harij, I was looking for something like this. Except for some of the links it requires an activation fee :( :(

You're good kid, real good with my help you..could be the best! :farmer:

And that's why I'll post something real soon.

In other words yes it was Ingres, I've been reading alot about him lately.

Yay!

I'm half french (and I speak the language fluently since I lived in france for 8 years). Ingres is my french pride :).

Nice quote btw.

I don't really want to move into charcoal just oils (personally I think charcoal looks too bleak) so I've got hold of some books about the masters of pencil. and to be honest, charcoal isn't necessary to learn in order to do quality oil paintings anyway!.

My dad's teaching me how. He actually knows a hell of alot.

Try oil pastels before you try oil paint. Its much easier to get a handle for oil pastels and it gives you an idea on how oil paint is gonna work

Here is a picture of a woman looking down. I couldn't be bothered finishing it so here it is. I know the someone's having trouble with faces, so this ones for you pal. I enlarged the image my magnifying it then printing the sceen and saving it, s othat everyone can have a good look.

It's a bit too late for that Sparta, I've already had a few lessons with oils.

This is what I have been working on for an hour now in pencil and oils and it's half done. I decided to put this up because I'm away for 2 weeks! and I'll leave you all something to remember me by, except I scanned it and now all the oil is smeared on the scanner.....meh, nothing a little turps won't fix.

Anyway, enjoy!

Jeez man i can't believe you scanned that image before the oil was dry. It can take up to a week for oils to dry on their own. Not bad though for someone whose just starting out with them

Nice star Eatbugs. Imo you should have spent a little more time on the pencil sketch because the nose is a little off, but I like the thin brushstrokes you used, gives it a nice style.
