EBworld Pushes HL2 Ship Date back to November

I'm now backing a 'Holiday Season' release. I think Valve completely underestimated the problems they've encountered with CS:Source. It can only mean more delays.

Retailers don't know anymore than us, and as such, this is pure speculation on EB's part. It's paranoid to simply assume they know more than us.

Also, I think this has been mentioned a few times already. Use search next time. Unless I'm wrong. :)

I have actually seen the speculation of the November release date at other places as well.

Including in the announcements here:
www.hl2talk.com

I don't think it's unlikely now, they made that bold claim that they would be bug free by this date but CS:S is plagued b bugs, quite a number of them extreme showstoppers, and since that's running on the HL2 engine there's evidently some stabalising that needs to be done.

This is the 2nd sign of the apocalypse so far.

They are pushing the date back because they know Valve are a bunch of idiots that is going to delay the game some more.

Retailers are often optimistic, so this isn't a good sign.

oh well .. we all knew this would happen again ^^

^Thomas^ clean up your attitude. I had a guarentee of good behavior from you, after I let you come back. I can easily go back on that and ban you.

There has never ever been an official release date given out by Valve since last year, so everything these online retailers say as far as release dates go is purely speculation. Nothing more.

Lets see, they have your attention, once the game goes live they will have your money, they will have money from the "Steam" project not to mention the licensing on the engine money.....

Gee I wish I was an idiot.

Being an idiot is a lot easier than not I think....

Anyways, absolutely nothing would surprise me at this point...

If it's delayed until Spring, it wouldn't surprise me...

I as well am starting to think Holiday Season....

This IS going to keep going and going and going isn't it?

Funny how I posted the exact same thread yesterday, and mine got closed.

I think because you are a newbie to these forums. So moderators are a bit harder on you guys :p

Man, this sucks really hard.

Really losing interest after so much time.....

If this game gets pushed back to november when I know it's done I won't buy it. That's money grubbing and it sickens me. Novembe...GO to hell if you think your gonna get my bussiness in NOVEMBER.

Go PIMP more ATI products your JERKS.

Alright - I think I'll explain this for the upteenth time again:

Most retailers' inventory/order systems work in a certain way that involves pre-fixed dates for an item that will change on the 15th of the month if they don't hear from the distributor.

For example, EB games listed 9/1 as the release date. They hadn't heard anything from VU on 8/15 thus they changed the date to an arbitrary date of 11/1. This does NOT necessarily mean that the game has been delayed until 11/1 - all it means is that they don't expect a 9/1 release and are assigning an arbitrary date in their inventory systems for expected delivery.

"If this game gets pushed back to november when I know it's done I won't buy it. That's money grubbing and it sickens me. Novembe...GO to hell if you think your gonna get my bussiness in NOVEMBER."

What on earth is the difference if they get your money in September, October, or November?!? If anything by releasing it in November, they've allowed you to earn a bit more interest on your funds. I fail to see the logic in your statement.

If you're going to try and insult Valve, at least use the correct terms.

As Clippit might say, did you mean "products you JERKS" or "products, you're JERKS!"?

Err, anyway, this is probably just some standard industry stuff. I'm not worried.

November is "traditionally" the time that money is spent on others and not yourself.

Maybe he only has money for 1 game a year. Stalker is coming.

Or actually I have no idea. Pick one. His reasons are his own.

Accidentally put an 'r' on (you). Sorry . And if you don't UNDERSTAND why pushing the game to November is money grubbing then .....ahh hell.....YOUR A Fecking MORON.

November is the most active month for retailers in the entire year. It's called Christmas and it's when people have the most disposible income.

All I am saying is "IF" they push it back. But "IF" they do... that's ....it's just a repulsive way of treating fans of your game.

They're a business. Of course they're going to money grab. You're acting as if it's a strange and unusual thing for a business to do. And they're not going to care about the 5% of potential customers this community makes up or what they think. If you won't buy it because they money grab, well that's your loss unfortunately.

Which is funny, as he's been here longer than you have.

why release the game now?...they will be making much more money in december.

They're not making the game for you. It's not a repulsive way of treating fans, it's business.

Retailers don't get any inside info from develoeprs, nor from publishers. Sometimes they will get spreadsheets frome ach publisher. But when you are dealing with self funded devs, the pub and the retailer, don't know squat.

Hell most retailers had to bring their doom 3 release dates forward 2 months because id shocked the world with the surprise release heh

I was about to order the game as soon as it was pre-loaded... if it really is pushed to November though, I'm waiting for some GLOWING reviews and maybe a demo before I considering purchasing this game.

I really don´t understand why they have to release the game near to chirstmas rather than today to sell more copies.

I believe they would just sell the same amount or even more.

MAybe if they started selling today the people that are dubitative would be pushed forward when they see many people playing and realesing good reviews.

Isn´t Valve enough confident about the game????

I pre-ordered mine July 23rd of last year...still waiting.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who can't see past this little logic twist and that suits marketing just fine. In fact they RELY on you not getting it.

Releases at xmas (holiday time) + general mis-guidance = more MONEY. Don't try and understand, just learn.

If they release it at Christmas, it means more money in the short term. Of course they'll get the same amount of money eventually, but if an opportunity comes when a business can get that money quicker and sooner, theyll grab it. Christmas is a perfect time for this.
