You won't be THAT busy...I'm starting Uni as well, but you WILL have time to play HL2.

You right.... if didnt have other extra curriculum activities.... + id rather hang out with friend during the Uni period... in Summer everyone has left and therefore theres not much to do anyway... at christmas unfortunately or fortunately.. however u want to see it... I always go to the far east....

My birthday is in November, so if HL2 gets released then at least I don't have to pay for it.

Hmm, HL2 and steam suscription or iPod

HL2 man!

its getting to the rediculous stage now. I thought the date sept 30th this year was out of order but actually going 1 year over their initial release date( which they knew they were nowhere near making and didnt tell anyone) is shocking. they say it will be out in March then "summer" so is it going to be winter? shocking!!

It will be out very soon....
I have a feeling that within 2 weeks Vivendi will have the RC and not long after it will be gold!
I GUARANTEE* you this!

Whoever says retailers like eb and gamestop (exclusive to games) dont have some extra info on release dates and such is sadly mistakin.

I say it because i know it for a fact. Considering my cousin is the manager of the local eb. Or considering 3 weeks before doom 3 released their release date was 2 months after it was actually released. Or the fact that they didnt actually know when they were getting it into their store until 2 weeks before hand. They had no inside info whatsoever. Ask anyone who actually works at EB or has worked at eb they will always tell you the release dates are all speculative, not based on any inside info.

Thats why for almost a year doom 3 was pushed back month by month.

You will ALWAYS get the correct release date on the web from game news sites waayy before you get it from eb or any other game specific retailer. Especially when dealing with self funded developers.

I think any delay (fictional or real) makes any HL2 fan flinch, simply because of all the bad experiences with HL2 release dates.

Since September was never an official release date people shouldn't be suprised that an unoffical release date is pushed back to another unofficial release date.

don't think it's unlikely now, they made that bold claim that they would be bug free by this date but CS:S is plagued b bugs.

it isnt plagued by bugs atall, just a few tweek's and the game is solid.

playing the beta is great, it feels just like the origional CS, except in source obviously. :p

I've worked at Babbage's (now Gamestop), and I can confirm that what killahsin is saying is true. We never knew jack shit about actual release dates, just when the boxes arrived at the store.

Odd cause my friend is a manager at one of the stores here in my town and he says that they are guesses, however they base them off of retail press releases from the companies themselfs, not gonna change my mind cause I really think they do know a little more than we do... any good business should.

all i know is that i was so pumped for hl2 last year and i got let down and totally forgot about it, then i got pumped up again this summer because i actually visited valve and saw everything in action and even played the game and everything seemed ready to me, yet we still hear nothing about a solid confirmed release date... i dont even care if it is in november or something i just want a solid date taht i can look forward to and expect hl2 rather than being all excited than finding its not going to come out for a looong time...

Corporate offices get release info not the grunts(that includes store managers). Also its even a need to know basis in the main offices. So A.K.A the PR people get advanced release "info". The problem is that Valve and pretty much everyother Computer software company dosnt know their Head from their A$$, so their in the dark until its done. Its just the way of things. But the short of it is that Yes Retailers do have more info given to them on the upper managment levels.

yep machine but the net community sites get the same pr that the retailers do. There was a point in time where retailers and even media game sites online got alot of inside information. Alot of issues arised from this which I believe is why they no longer get any.

This be not true. Sounds good but it isn't true. They get press releases and thats it. the same press releases websites get. As for who knows their heads from their asses, i would direct your comments at publishers not software developers. Than again you would know this since you know all the inside info

November release date is excellent timeing for me. October is the months of new Graphics Card, plus New MoBo for AMD64 with PCI-E in November.

Yeah Let it be November ;)

If they release it at Christmas, it means more money in the short term. Of course they'll get the same amount of money eventually, but if an opportunity comes when a business can get that money quicker and sooner, theyll grab it. Christmas is a perfect time for this.

I still don't understand that logic. Look at the fanbase there are millions who want the game already. release it now and the rewards will benefit them. I think Vivendi is taking to much control of simple marketing.

I agree. This will give me time for the price of a new computer, which i need, to drop considerably. what new graphics cards are coming out?

Funny how I posted the exact same thread yesterday, and mine got closed.

That's because no one cares about Retail 'dates'. This one should have been closed too.

why release the game now?

They told us this summer.

...they will be making much more money in december.

True, but pushing a game back nearly 3 1/2 months just to make more money would anger there fans IMO. Hell I'd be mad, promise us a preload tonite, then tell us next month HL2 will be realeased in novemeber? ouch ;(

Its kinda like promising a kid a piece of candy. You give him the wrapper, then the candy 2 months later
