Way too much to buy? What was the "much" part? I mean what has come out, FEAR...CoD2?
Oh, I wasn't talking strictly FPS for the PC. There are a bunch of great adventure, strategy, RTS games that have recently dropped, apart from the great FEAR and CoD2, not to mention the bunch of great PS2 titles that have just released or will release soon. And with a few more on the way before Christmas, its going to be pretty expensive and exciting for those of us who don't limit their gaming to one genre/one medium.

Check out the Bethesda official oblivion forums. They are constantly crashing because of this. I think there was 200 people reading the "Official release date thread" and its like the 7th incantation of the thread. I think there was like 2500 posts in all on this topic there.

I am going to go jump off of a bridge. Even though they will make it better in the meantime while it's delayed...I WANT TO PLAY IT NAOW!!1

We still have Condemned and Gears of War!!!! OR DO WE :(

Update: I was hoping Saints Row would make the launch like they say but guess what! it got pushed back to june - july 2006 DAMN!! i was wanting that one too.:(

Really? I thought Gears of War was at least a year down the road.

Most places list it as January/February 2k6.:)
Keep in mind, that if it releases within those dates, Microsoft still counts it as a launch-title.:)

People should have learned by now that release dates don't mean sh1t anymore.
Always always ALWAYS add a year to the first one you read, then add 6 months to the second, then 3 to the third. And then it will be released. Full of bugs.

spaghetti monster am teh ROCK

20 minute Oblivion game demo

I have been wanting this game since the first screen shots surfaced long ago. I have been patiently waiting, knowing it would be like - forever before I would be playing it.

Last night, I decided to check online and see how it was progressing. I downloaded a 20 minute gameplay demo from

http://www.filecloud.com/files/file.php?file_id=2190

Someone may have already posted this, but I didn't see it anywhere. Anyway, It can't hurt to re-post it. ;)

Filecloud is much faster and less advertisey than all the other sites I have come across so far - but probably not for long now that I have just promoted it!

Anyway, Any video game fan MUST SEE this demo. Its boner-riffic. A quantum leap in video game software technology.

It sounded like the narrator was saying the forest was randomly generated in real-time. saying that the game decides where to put trees and rocks, etc.
Could someone explain what he really ment?

A later release date, although disapointing, will give me time to get a good enough PC to play it.

I want to get a system that can run it as well as the system that was Demo-ing the game on this video.

The forests are all randomly generated using SpeedTree and even take into account soil erosion over time due to weather, wind, etc

This Demo is a build from E3, but was released at Microsofts X05 event or something..

Icarus, that's only when using the editor, it's not an "in-game" feature, atleast not from what I've read on the forums.

Also, I don't see what's so SUPER impressive about Oblivion, the A.I. doesn't sound like it's more impressive than say STALKER's, but I guess we won't be able to tell until both of them have released.:)

And make no error, I'm greatly looking forward to Oblivion, I've been a faithful Elder Scrolls fan since the days of Daggerfall(Great game albeit a buggy piece of shit at times).

We have yet to see if STALKER is even going to ever come out, though I'm hoping since they're taking all this time it's going to be a msterpiece

I was just reporting what I knew on the whole forest thing, I hadn;t read anything that clearly stated how SpeedTree was being used

I'm just hoping for the same level, if not more, freedom to explore that was found in Morrowind, along with a solid story and a beautiful game world to explore

Oblivion A.I.

I have never heard of stalker so i can't comment on that.

As for oblivion:

The fighting looks to be improved ten-fold over morrowind, although thats not saying much. :p

The AI? heh, this game doesn't really have AI , when they see you they run at you and try to kill you.

But! I prefer this over the Medal of Honor Pacific Assualt AI.. where the enemy will duck or dodge as soon as you get the crosshairs over him. cheap! cheating! the game is telling him to duck when you aim on him - even when the enemy doesn't even see you! arggg. as if them taking a half a clip and still running at you un-fazed isn't bad enough. And that was on the Easy skill level. sheesh

but it looks like with a seperate button for blocking with a shield or 2 hand sword. thats cool. The whole sword swinging mechanics and spraying blood look superb for a game with graphics this good. I love how you can swing quickly to knock them back a bit, then hold down the button to do a more powerful, fatal swing and cut them down. Also! , they added sword swinging combos, instead of one-swing mechanics.

And i have beatiful memories of Dungeon master the way you gain skill in things you acutally do, instead of gaining levels that has become the way of nearly every single RPG and RPG wanna-be.

In morrowind the fighting was pretty horrible, even for that time. the game was still fantastic! and thats what is so sweet. now we get unbelievable graphics with great fighting mechanics! w00t! rejoice

Oh and by the way i did download Speedtree or whatever a few months back, but it was just trees. waving in the wind. So you are saying the forest is randomly generated and goes on for infinity? Interesting! randomly generated dungeons have always been slightly .. well manufactured. for example a game that comes to mind is Dark Cloud 2 where the levels are different every time. I don't really like this, the graphics always take a hit. but it still looks really great in oblivion.

But the narrator said the forest was randomly generated with Hot spots on your compass indicating places of interest like dungeons. and he said there were over 200 dungeons. the dungeons are not randomly generated which is great. that means they are very detailed and seamless.

Anyway, you can click a location that you have been to before and instantly go there in Oblivion, when you are done wandering in the forest. Me likes.
Cheers!

I have no doubt that STALKER'll be released, and I certainly hope they not delay it even further because of Oblivion now releasing in 2k6, they shouldn't see Oblivion as a competitor imo, sure they're both RPGs, but Oblivion is a one of a kind in that it's a open-ended fps -SCI-FI- RPG.

From what the guys at GSC has stated after that THQ report it seems that they might even consider getting a new publisher or something alike, because they practically said they'll definitely not let the game wait that long.
I mean comeon, a guy who was at GSC a few weeks ago and actually got to try the game reported that everything was practically done aside from some balancing and bugs.

I doubt it'll take'em a year to get the game out.

Anyway, sorry for straying off-topic.

I just hope that Oblivion doesn't suffer any more delays, I'll probably wait with buying my 360 now tho, atleast until GoW is out.

Oh and Oblivion has an impressive A.I. imo, atleast compared to Morrowind, now we won't have computer players staying in their houses 24/7/365.:)

The difference is in STALKER they actually strive the other A.I. to be a REAL competitor for you, so it can complete one of the several endings instead of you, steal missions from you etc.

If you wanna read more on stalker I recommend oblivion-lost.com.:)

Ah...sweet bro, seeing as how I love RPG's, would it be wise to trade in my xbox, which I never play, for a PS2 to get like star ocean till' the end of time and the final fantasy series ive been dying to play? Also if I traded in the xbox at lets say gamestop/EB, would I be able to get a ps2 and a game or two with my 5-6 xbox games + xbox which is 1 year old? Also which retailer should I trade it in at if I should trade it in? Thanks in advance

That reminds me, any speculations as to what the System requirements for Oblivion will be? I was thinking in school a bit about that and I came to the conclusion that to play it nicely, with some of the eye candy up, maybe a 2.5Ghz processor/AMD equivalent with 1024Mb RAM and a 128Mb Video card 9800/6600GT

I think that's midrange performance ..read a good article on video card performance in TES:Ob ...I'll post it if I ever track it down again

I have a p4 2.8 c, 9800 and they specifically said it would run it with most of the eye candy turned on

a 2.5Ghz processor being midrange for system specs? Hell FEAR completely killed it, I mean 3.0 for recommended? Lots of people are going to hate this, all the money being shredded you know lol? Most people are still running low end stuff, but I guess what you have will run it nicely, so this delay could help others gather up money to get back into action right?

I meant the video card would get mid range performance in Oblivion

I think Oblivion is going to take even the most high end system and make it beg for mercy.

this is not really oblivion related... well, yeah it is, kind of...

512mb of memory will just not be enough for games like Oblivion. So I bought 2x 1gb sticks of crucial 3200 ram yesterday specifically to iron out little freezes here and there. Tried to get them to dual channel in my A7N8X-E... got a blue screen after 5 minutes along with various lockups and crashes. Did a google and found countless other complaints about the board being too unstable to run dual channel memory. Apparently Asus are aware of it but have done nothing about it and will proceed to do nothing about it.
Easy come easy go, if I shove one of my old 512mb 2700 sticks back in slot 3 i'll have 2.5gb of single channel which will do until I can get a new motherf*****board.

If anyone else has this board, you have my sympathy

//Off topic

I have completely boycotted Asus Mobo's for this reason among many others, but of all the different mobos I've used or put into other computers Asus fails more then any other.

//On topic

Hopefully this delay allows them to release a game that doesn't require a patch the day after release, I can only wait and hope. Its been a while since I've heard of a game being released that didn't require a patch within the first week or so, correct me if I'm wrong but the tendency of this is really mind boggling.

Funny, I've used nothing but Asus mobos and never had a problem with them, along with my other friends that build computers.
*shrug*

Well I'd rather have the game a few months earlier, even with some glitches. with the 360 you have a way to download patches quickly and easily (of course without the hard drive, a bunch of patches would have to use space on your memory card)

Why the hell did you resurrect this thread!
