How Long?

If any fundamental shift does happen, I'd hope it would be due to some kind of rise of India or China, rather than a rise of Islamicism.

Aye. I would prefer India, personally.

India indeed. The ones who are not living on the street are apparently earning a good reputation on the I.T front. I wonder where welfare is best... China or India? In China, the solution to a lot of problems is imprisonment, sometimes with the help of Yahoo. Inc, and sometimes death by lynching administered in prison. But then again, I don't know much about the Indian penal system. For all I know, they could be beating prisoners with... Curry... dishes or something to that effect.

What? That's not even...I mean...never mind.

We'd go back to warring within our own countries, nukes would probably be used, etc etc.
"The end of the world" usually one of the following mean:
*The end human civilization
*The end of all human life
*The end of all animal life on the planet
*The end of all life on the planet
*The end of the planet (IE, it blows up or something)

I don't see how "go[ing] back to warring within our own countries" is any of those.

The end of the world as we know it will occur within 50 years for one of the following reasons:

1. Everyone on the planet will commit suicide because the miserable, joyless, shrinkwrapped existences forced upon them by increasingly authoritarian ban-this, stop-that governments have driven them to utter despair.

2. Almost everyone on the planet will starve to death from paying the government so much money to "stop global warming" and the survivors will kill each other fighting over the resulting revenue.

Hey, you can't say my theories aren't unique and politically relevant. ;)

China is better, I would say. Generally much wealthier and more freedom than you would imagine, the wealthy cities on the east coast aren't terribly different from many western cities as far as I know. Shanghai looks like something out of the future.
India has practically whole cities that are just neverending slums (insert London quip here ;)). Plus China is accumulating wealth far faster than India and democracy will eventually follow.

I don't foresee it happening for quite a while, actually.

Although I do foresee large populations being wiped out within the next 50 or so years.

i forsee an oil war which leads to a nuclear war in a 100 years..

Wouldn't it be cool if India and China combined into one big thing?

That's great, it starts with an earthquake. Birds and snakes. An aeroplane. Lenny Bruce is not afraid.

Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn - world serves its own needs, dummy serve your own needs. Feed it up an aux feed. Grunt - no, strength - the ladder starts to clatter with fear. Fight! Down, hike! Wire in a fire representing seven games; a goverment for hire in a combat site. Left of west and coming in a hurry with the furies breathing down your neck. Team by team reporters baffled, trumpted, tethered, cropped. Look at that low plane! Fine, then. Uh-oh, overflow, population common food, but it'll do, save yourself! Serve yourself. World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed; dummies with the raptured and the revered and the right, right. You vitriolic patriotic slam fight, bright-light, feeling, pretty, psyched.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

It's the end of the world as we know it... and I feel fine.
