This image sums up my hate for them quite nicely:

DO SOMETHING D:

If it was engie vs engie, I would just charge the sentry, because there is no point in dragging it out.

But that looks so stupid..."I will fight this sentry with ANOTHER SENTRY!"

At least, with this most recent addition to sudden death, people should be more compelled to aim for the camping bastards themselves; especially since you're taking out two birds with one stone.

LOL@pic.

What would happen if you ubered an engy long enough to build a sentry in front of another sentry...would they target eachother?

Yep they do, had that happen on dustbowl when the gates opened, pretty funny stuff lol

I saw an engineer putting up a teleport today during sudden death.

One engineer during sudden death is a good idea though. You need the dispenser for healing and especially ammo.

It says "Keep the Doorway clear". :/

The Red engineer is an idiot, he should have used his metal to build a dispenser to keep him alive while he tries to destroy the other Engy's dispenser. After that he can take out the other Engy and then he can pistol down the level 3 SG. What am I saying? Sudden Death sucks and we all know it! :p

And for the record, a teleport can be useful in SD. You get 2 Engies: one to guard the base SGs and one to go off and plant the exit tele in a sneaky place where it won't get found. Then you get all the defenders to rush through it and take the enemy by surprise in the last 60s (half will be in the middle of the map contemplating an attack whilst simultaneously scratching their balls from boredom). Problem is it never happens because most Engies are too damn stupid/selfish to guard someone else's stuff as well as their own.

The problem with sudden death is that many people haven't cottoned onto the fact that they need to change class to something else generally. We were just kicking ass on Well as Red and were denied the last point by some robust defense by Blue. Come sudden death none of the 5 engineers in the team bothered changing to a more offensive support class and we ended up getting our asses handed to us because the opposition were already a fighting force. The banzai like charge forward didn't help matters either....:frown:

Sudden Death should be like Dr Dodgeball where every time you kill an enemy, you get to pick one of your teammates to bring back to life. That way the game landslides one way or the other more quickly.

But then you wouldn't get the tense 1v1, 2v2, 2v1, etc battles.

Best way to win sudden death is for all engis to switch to medics.

You would still get tense 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2, 2 vs 1 battles. For 1 vs 1, the game still ends when the last player dies. With more player it just means that whoever gets a single kill would quickly have a big advantage so it is even MORE important. IE 2 vs 2, would become 3 vs 1 and then the game is pretty much over.

So true. Medics are the way forward in SD. One engi is fine, more than one a lot of people will be twiddling their thumbs for a few minutes.

I'm all for scrapping of sudden death. A team can have 4 out of 5 CP's capped due to good teamwork, but then in sudden death they can lose the entire round in what is basically team deathmatch.

I think I was in that game on Blue, Kadayi :D As nice as it was for us at the time, I felt as if we didn't really deserve to win. I would rather we had pulled together to defeat your horde of sentries rather than just have the game decided by a random shootout.

We brought the game to sudden death because there was too much individual effort and not enough teamwork for us to break your engies and re-cap the second point. Then we won sudden death due to individual efforts and deathmatch-style play. It doesn't seem like the kind of thing the game should reward, yet it does.

Valve should just have it so that the round is prolonged until someone wins outright, and screw the ADHD sufferers who don't like it. At the very least extend the time you get for capping. At the moment it seems that maps go into sudden death in the blink of an eye.

BTW, wtf is up with automatic mapchanges in the middle of the Dustbowl mapcycle? This is just bizarre and has happened to me at least twice.

Actually yeah, a dispenser can be very handy if you've got a couple of heavies.

Personally, I say it should be a server side option. Sudden Death on/off. If off, count how many captures each team has, then award the win to the one with most capture points or the one with the most points in their control at the end of the round.

I think Sudden Death should only occur if there's a clearer tie. In CTF, the game should ONLY go into SD if the two teams have the same number of captures (i.e. if it's 2-1 for Red and first to 3, and the game times out, Red wins). For CP maps, it's sudden death ONLY if the game times out when one team has only a one-cap advantage over the other (i.e. if the middle point is one of the "unlocked" points).

This is why I play ctf.

Lol.

CTF usually ends up with SD too I've found. At least on public servers where teamwork is sparse, but good teamwork from both sides tends to lead to one team attacking and the other defending for the game, which ends up in SD too.
