Entire HL2 soundtrack in second preload

Ive been looking through some of the files in the second preload via a gcf extractor. Theres some pretty amazing stuff in there, some highlights being the entire hl2 soundtrack, and all the character dialogue in easily accessable wav format. I think its funny people were freaking out about a little subtitles file getting released, this is much worse.

There is no spoon! :O

I am so pondering leaving these forums for a good while.. hmm.. I r scared of spoilers.

What do you think of the soundtrack so far?

Also, welcome.
A fine frist post indeed.

hope you don't spoil the game for yourself :)

well... unless you really wanna know the conversations and stuff :p

btw PLEASE don't post any spoilers, thanks :)

Yeah, I won't post any spoilers don't worry. I actually haven't listened to it yet as I just discovered it a few minutes ago.

I thought everything was encypted...???

Although i am interested in getting the soundtrack prematurely

Have you tried to play any of these files? They may be encrypted in some way

I'd be interested in getting the soundtrack, but I dont want to end up with spoilers by hearing the talking.

if they are accessable i would only just check out some of the soundtrack. But otherwise i won't spoil the convos for myself. I don't see why anyone would other than to run onto a forum and post spoilers then run and tell their mom about it...

I've gotta...go...now...to listen to stuff...

BRB!

well, I'm actually re-preloading it because I looked through the gcf before it was completely downloaded, after I did that it refused to continue preloading. So it might be a while. These files are not encrypted formats like the first preload had, they are wav. and mp3 files.

Before you jump into conclusions - open a file and switch off your speakers, you'll probably get the "ERROR - file encrypted" window pop-up.

All the textures were encrypted - and so are these. Yep you can open all the preloads with "oh noes!"scape but the stuff inside is sealed.

kind of off topic but a number of people been having problems with opening the large gcf files, but nem has fixed the problem. dont know if this is illegal but since valve had a little hunt for us then i guess it isnt.

I've done what I suggested above, you can pick up the new version here. Note that the above will not be the final version. It maps a hard coded portion of the file for the header information (if the header is larger then the mapped portion GCFScape will probably crash) but it should work for all current GCF files. Please D/L it and let me know if it works.

i cant get it to work it just crashes when i try open anything with it. It say the program failed to initialise properly

If it's anything like C&C Generals' soundtrack, I'm interested :p

hah! how many preloaded phases are there going 2 be? is this the last one? or?

If you use the new version of "OH NOES!!11!"scape your computer won't crash while opening the file.

BTW - it's no use, all the sound files are encrypted (just tried). So that means we can stay on the forums and avoid spoilers - untill some lifeless git cracks it! :D

Yea, you can extract them, but not play them. I'm sure they were coded to only work on the Source engine.

im actually downloading the preload to get the soundtrack and some other things, as long as they dont give away the story fine with me

This was stupid, you are just giving ideas to people.

You can play the sounds at all, they are encrypted and cannot be played. Yuo can extract them but i repeat they can't be played

Well, that's good. If they're gonna do more preloads then I think the next one will include a video were someone plays through the whole game...

Phew, I was worried there for a while. Of course Valve knows better than to do anything THAT stupid.. Right?

w00t

100 posts, now that the soundtrack and dialouge is out I'm off till I've finished it :D

cya noobs :p

I dunno i was kind of hoping to be able to at least play the music heh.

damn i want that soundtrack it sounded so good when..... errr...... nevermind

The great thing about the preload is that 99% of the preloaders probably aren't even buying the game through Steam... retards. :(

No more preloads?

ON the first preload of HL2, when you went to monitor and clicked on the properties for the preload of HL2, under status it said needed updates.

Now with the 2nd preload finished it says not released. Doesn't this mean the no more preloads will be comming?

it means there have been none released since you last finished updating (last night)

It said not yet released to me after the first preload.

There defenitly is more data that we need to play the game. I think this means that there will be more preloads in the future.

It's my understanding that even though they have a .wav extension, they are encrypted and won't play in your standard media player. Someone in another forum tried it and they wouldn't play.

it gives me a percentage bar, the first preload finished at 50%, the second preload seems to of started from where it left off, second perload is now on 58% after starting 15 mins ago.

hi there, its my first post here so i wanna say hello to all
(status of me: ns player, have ATI\HL2 cdkey)
well im about to finish the second preload, in prpeties it says
"Requires Update"
its exausting to DL those preloads over and over again...
1GB isnt that small.... :E i really hope it will be the last preload :|

good observation, i've not finished, but i think there will be one or 2 more
