Episode 3 is the end eh?

I REALY doubt that.Im not sure they were planing HL2 right away,so thay made blue shift and opposing force so you can see the Resonance Cascade from the perspective of a security guard and a HECU soldier. And Barney wasnt planed all along. In HL1 all sec.guards were called barney, they just gave one of them a last name and put him in HL2 to give it more debth,so i think people should drop the whole Adrian Shepard cr*p.(and didnt he like...die)

Adrian Shephard Adrian Shephard Adrian Shephard!
an angel just got its wings or a fairy died or whatever

So Xen is an alternate version of Earth. Ri-i-i-i-i-ght.

"The border world Xen, is in our control for the time being"

So Xen exists somehow between Universes.

And Rapstah was correct the Combine Homeworld is Earth in a parallel Universe. However that doesn't mean they don't have a "conventional" galactic Empire in their home Universe.

I wasn't saying that's the case, though it's possible
I was just clarifying what he was saying

Source?

It's only the end to this current story arc. There's still things they want to do with the universe, and probably the characters as well.

Yeah, Gabe said it's the end of the story arc, but by no means the end of the story.

I reckon alot of the characters will be dead/old by the time you come back, so it's very likely that there'll be a whole bunch of new characters.
It might be the case you get sent to the combine homeworld or something random.

First, source? Second, Shepard sucks more balls than even GlaDos can count (and she has infinate computing capacity).

I completely forget the source, but I do remember some valve official, newell or someone else, saying (in.. uncertain terms) that they could and probably will bring shepherd in somehow.

Valve has said while that they do not have Shephard involved in any title they're currently working on, they would like to get back to him some time in the future because the character "resonated" with the fans.

So eat it.

The story Arc is like that of Stargate, you start of with your standard badguys, which turn out to be the Goa'uld (Xenians/Vortigaunts can be considered the equivalents). After a while you realise that the Goa'ulds aren't all that bad, and that your standard politics can explain some of their previous actions. Now that we pacified them, we are now working together for a better tomorrow.

Then all of a sudden Anubis tries to single handedly conquer the whole galaxy (Similar motivations to the Combine I guess). The previous Goa'ulds are either fighting against or working with Anubis.

With Anubis out of the picture, in come the Ori. Driven by religion and a greater understanding of how the galaxy functions, they are able to sweep away any opposition. Now I don't have a HL equivalent race to compare the Ori to, but if Anubis was still around, their appearance would even make him sh*t his pants.

Now in the Stargate series, one race other than the Humans that has a constant viewing is that of the Goa'uld (Vortigaunts), so they will feature in the future, but I think its safe to say that the Combine might be out of the picture or we may have some dealings with them later on (yes I said dealings because they may offer us a truce, god forbid)

Funny, because Valve didn't even create him :p

The big "GEARBOX" letters at the start of launching OpFor should have negated any potential confusion. And I'm assuming that anybody who feels qualified to talk about Shephard has played the game.

Think of it this way:

HL1 had an arc. It ended after Xen.

HL2 built upon that, and extended the story arc. It will end after Episode 3.

HL3... or whatever comes next... will do the same, building on what has been established already.

I doubt HL3 will do what HL2 did.. i.e. present us with 'a greater enemy that overshadows the previous threat.' It may introduce a variety of foes during the revitalization of Earth.. who rises to power, remaining Combine influence, etc, etc.
