Well, didn't want to bring back any of the old topics, so post your expectatins here.
 
Draw at best. Otherwise, I have a feeling England are going down. It is the host conutry, after all; they're gonna be pumped.

But then again, we have Rooney. ;)
 
me thinks 3 - 1 to England,

but I really have no clue. Could be intresting.
 
undecided.

my neighbours are from portugal and they've been cheering whenever portugal score a goal. something tells me they could be quiet today ;)

hopefully it'll be a good game regardless of the result.

wait.. you mean in regulation? this is a quarterfinal, right? so there can't be a draw, can there? what is the protocol for a draw, one 15-min overtime then penalties?
 
i think so Timmy, golden goal then penalties.
It wont come to that, England cant play for draws, we dont have a strong enough defence. Our attack and midfield play is brilliant though, and we're win 2-1.. i cant imagine us getting a clean sheet, i think Ashley Cole will be walked over... !
 
they've changed it.

if it's a draw then it goes to a 'Silver Goal'. meaning, if someone scores during the first period of extra time, they have to wait for the first period to finish. so if at the end of 90' the score is 0-0, it will go to silver goal. then, say if someone scores on 93', play will continue until 105', and if the score is still 1-0 then that team wins. if scores are still level then a second period is played with pretty much the same rules applying. except there won't be a third period, it'll just go to penalties.

First a 15 minute overtime, I'm not sure if this is already golden goal (first goal scored by anyone ends the match, sudden death) if it's still a draw, then another 15 minutes and then penalties.
 
If England continues to play like they have been playing , they will beat Portugal imo. It will be a great match though

Yeah, it would end in penalties. I complete forgot it was a quater final, I was too used to it being a group match lol. But yeah, if we get into penalties, we should have a good chance. :)

Reverse that and you got the score :D

But theres also a part of me that dosent want portugal to win because if they do, There are gonna be some football idiots that will go on a rampage.

Everyone in England hates footy hooligans they make us look like them :(
 
3-2 Portugal, Rooney will probably do something stupid like choke on a barbecue rat or something.

I reckon he has amazing potential to be our best striker.
 
Okay, let me phrase that again. I have to admit Ronney is a pretty good player, but the next pele according to Sven. C'mon.
 
I hope that it doesnt go to penalties because England are really crap at penalties. I WANT England to go through but I THINK that Portugal will beat them 3-1. Owen scoring the England goal with Pauleta and Figo and Ronaldo scoring for Portugal.

I'm not sure if Owen will score, since he hasn't played too well in the last few games. He has potential but she hasn't shown in the past games.

no you're not the only one. yeah he's good...but comparing him to Pele?? they did the same bloody thing when Owen burst onto the scene in 98 world cup. don't listen to the media shoving stuff down our throats. rooney is good, but he isn't that good :hmph:
 
well, we haven't seen much from portugal in this tourney so far, unless they pick-up their game, they'll lose. that said, the suspect english defense has me very not-so-sure about my earlier prediction that portugal would lose in the quaterfinals..
 
Kind of a fluke/mistake really, but they're still winning.
 
So far so good...Seems like a pretty good match. Lots going on, although. England are playing well and i tihnk Portugal are being let down by their temper. They all got annoyed before at Beckam for moving the ball and thats really thrown them off...
 
It'll end like this, or worse (2-0).

We never got up from a loss in the 1st minutes.

Portugal's possession is pretty good in the second half.

Their possession wasn't all that bad in the first half, they just didn't have the ball that much :| Seriously though, they had the ball they just didn't handle it that well.

Having said that Englnad havent really had the ball yet so...
 
When England get possession of the ball, they're tending to lose the ball a lot in ridicolous circumstances.
 
So long as portugal don't score, they can take that ball stamp their name on it and place it nicely in the dip on their mantelpiece for all i care.
